Page 149 of Unravelling The Beast

I brace myself as we speed up the long, dark road, and when he thinks he's lost them, he slows down a little.

I cast a quick glance his way.

"Who the fuck was that, Arlo? Is it to do with your dad?"

He remains silent and keeps checking the mirror until he shouts angrily in his deep voice.

"Fuck sake!"

I check my mirror again and notice a supercar similar to Arlo's approaching from behind, and Arlo calls out to me.

"Brace yourself; this is going to be intense."

He steps on it again, and I keep my eyes fixed on the rearview mirror to see what the other car is doing. When it gets close enough, it shifts to Arlo's side, and he calls out to me.

"You need to take the fucking wheel!"

I'm taken aback.

"What!?"

He shouts furiously.

"Do it, Wren!"

My heart is pounding in my chest as I reach out and place my shaky palm on the steering wheel.

He suddenly lowers his window and grabs a gun from the back of his trousers before reaching out.

As I struggle to keep his beast car steady, I hear him fire a few shots before hearing the other car's tires screech before a huge impact. He takes back control of the steering wheel and shouts as he lowers back into his seat.

“That mother-fucker!”

I sink back into my seat, my eyes full of tears, and stare ahead till he shouts out to me.

"Wren!"

I remain stunned and stare ahead until he forcefully holds my chin, causing me to look at him before he speaks reassuringly.

"It's okay!"

My wet eyes lock with his as he softly brushes his thumb down my jaw, attempting to calm me, until he suddenly glances into the mirror again, something attracting his attention, and his jaw tenses.

I look into the mirror beside me once more and notice another supercar closing in on us. When I return my focus in Arlo's direction, I can see he is becoming furious.

Arlo shouts as the car swiftly swings to my side this time.

"Hold the fuck on tight!"

He swerves into the car and hits it, the thump forcing my body to stiffen in horror. The other car slows for no more than two seconds before regaining power and hitting the back of Arlo's car, causing us to swerve out of control.

I scream, bracing myself, as Arlo tries to regain control of his car, only for it to tumble and roll over and over again.

My head suddenly collides with something hard, knocking me out.

Everything is hazy as I gradually flicker my eyelids open. My head is pounding like a hammer has struck it, and it feels as if my body is spinning in circles.

My eyes widen with panic as they begin to focus, and my breathing becomes rapid. I look around frantically, trying to figure out what happened and why I'm upside down. I suddenly realize I'm still in Arlo's crushed Lamborghini, trapped within the wreckage.
