I suppose if I'm going to do this, I ought to figure out how to get out of his bad books, although I'm not sure how I got into them in the first place.

It's early Friday morning, and I have just gotten out of the shower. I enter my bedroom as my phone begins to ring on the bed and I walk towards the lit-up screen before coming to a

stop when I notice it's my little sister Lily calling.

I roll my eyes and reach down, with my other hand holding the towel in place that is wrapped around my damp body. When I have my phone, I lift it up, tap the screen, and position it on my ear.

“Hello?”

She answers immediately, her voice laced with giddiness.

“Wren, the best big sister in the whole wide world!”

I huff and flop down on the bed.

"What is it that you want now, Lil?"

She expresses her disbelief at my accusation.

"Why do you think I always want something?"

I roll my eyes once more before responding flatly.

"Because you do?"

When she remains silent, I know I'm right.

"So, what is it this time?"

She eventually musters the courage to speak after a brief pause.

"Well, there's this guy. From school. And..."

As she trails off, I sigh.

"And what?"

She then begins rambling quickly.

"Well, he wants us to hang out tonight, but you know how mom and dad are; they won't give me any money. They assume I'll just blow it on cigarettes and booze."

I release a sigh before I respond.

“And will you?”

"No, of course not!"

My brow raises in suspicion and I decide to challenge her.

"So, what do you need it for?"

Her tone turns cautious.

"It's just food and stuff." I'm not going to make him pay.

"Why not?"

She quickly becomes offended by my blunt questioning.
