“I won him completely, but I did give them the opportunity to fucking see him, and they did at first, but the contact fizzled out over time, and he hasn't seen them for around two years now.”
Her eyebrows raise before she returns her focus to the last part of the wound.
“That surprises me.”
“It is what the fuck it is. They had a choice; they fucked it, and now they can fuck off.”
“It's just a shame, that's all.”
I stay silent as she cuts the thread.
“And why was he with Savannah? Do you think it's a set-up or genuine?”
I grit my teeth.
“Nothing is fucking genuine where that snakey bitch is concerned.”
When she remains silent once more, I decide to press her to reveal what she said before I left tonight.
“What was that about before I left tonight?”
She ties the stitch as she responds gently.
“I'm just worried about you, that's all.”
“So, you're not leaving me?”
Her eyes met mine quickly, her brows creased and she paused from what she was doing.
“What?”
I look away, my jaw tense.
“You just need to tell me, Wren, so I can prepare for my fucking sanity.”
She reaches out and brings her warm palm to my face, causing me to look down at her.
“You're serious?”
I just stare at her and she looks deep into my eyes, reaching into my fucking soul.
“I love you more than anything or anyone, Arlo. I would never fucking leave you. Just because I worry about you and this world, it scares me but that doesn't mean I'm going to get up and leave you, baby. I know exactly what this is, and I'm willing to spend eternity with you, for better or worse, because you're worth it.”
I just gaze at her, my heart filling a little more with love whenever she says sappy shit like this. She gives me a closed smile when I don’t respond before she wraps a bandage around my arm.
As soon as she is finished, I surround her with my hands on either side of the counter, bringing my face close to hers, and my gaze falls on her pink, full lips.
“So, why won't you fucking marry me?”
Her eyes search mine before she responds quietly.
“I didn't say I wouldn't marry you.”
“No, you just didn't answer at all.”
She straightens up in a defensive stance and her pretty little nose scrunches up.
“I didn't think you were serious.”
