I raise my eyes to Jasper, who is already looking at me, and lean forward while speaking, placing my phone on the desk.
"Have you met their parents yet?"
His brow furrows.
"Lil's and Wren's?"
I give him a little nod, and he shakes his head slightly.
"Well, I've met their mom, but not their dad. Why?"
I groan and swing back and forth for a moment before responding.
"I've been invited to fucking dinner."
His brow furrows and he laughs.
"And you agreed?"
I give a small nod, and he seems stunned, which reminds me that I've been such a cold cunt over the years that he has every right to be shocked.
"I can't say I'm not surprised, Arlo. I didn't think the whole family dinner thing was you."
My lips lift into a small smirk as I respond.
"It fucking isn't, but Wren is definitely my thing."
We both exchange a smile before he speaks.
"These Edwardz girls have us pussy-whipped, brother."
I raise an eyebrow with a smirk.
"Speak for your motherfucking self."
He chuckles deeply, and I watch him before continuing.
"I met their dad at Wren's house last week, and there was something off about him, Jasp. I'm not sure what the fuck it is; I can't put my finger on it, so I had someone look into him."
He stares at me puzzledbefore leaning forward and giving me his undivided attention.
"What exactly do you mean, off?"
"Well, I immediately thought he was a member of the elites. I had that strange sense, and I felt like he knew who I was. I was speechless when Wren told me how he handled Charles' men that night and then how perfectly it was cleaned up."
He nods slightly, uncertain.
“And what did you find?”
My jaw clenches with agitation as I glance away.
"Fuck all. He's as clean as a fucking whistle."
As I continue, I return my gaze to him.
"However, I'm not fucking buying it. I'm usually right when I sense something is off."
He takes a long breath and settles back in his chair.
