“I found the formula.” They gasp in unison. “I haven’t done anything with it yet, but I have it. It’s at my apartment right now.”
“Fuck” someone says under his breath. I can’t tell who it was since it was so soft. I keep my eyes closed. I can’t face them.
“So, now you know. I have the formula and my whole future rides on turning it in tomorrow. I am an FDA consultant, and no matter what that man says, I am good at my job.” Tears fall from my closed eyes; they run down my face.
I trembled. I feel cold and hot at the same time. I never wanted to say this to them. I had done such a good job of pushing this aside. I almost forgot why I was here. I really did lose myself in True Love. I don’t know what is going to happen next.
I open my eyes; no one is looking at me.
“I think you should go,” Nico finally says. He still isn’t looking at me. His eyes are fixed on the mirror on the wall. I look in the mirror and catch the reflection of his gaze. We stare at each other for a long time.
Finally, I turn and walk out the door.
