“You should be, Seth. These men and women aren’t your average engineers, designers, or researchers. I don’t think you understand how capable and superior they are to anything we currently have in the government. How do you think they’ve avoided being sucked into this fucking world in the first place?”
Seth slammed his fist on the desk, staring at the man who’d been beside him for decades now. He didn’t budge. Didn’t even look up at him.
“Enough! I will have it. I will have it all, and when I have it in my hands, I will control everything. I will be the man forcing others to deal with us in our way. Do you understand how powerful I will become? Do you have any idea?
“I will be able to walk into the Kremlin or any other fucking place on earth and say, ‘do it our way, or I will unleash hell on you.’ Just the stealth technologies alone would allow us to put our ships into port without them even knowing it. If I took some of what they have and advance it, force them to think deeper, wider, I will own the world.”
“You.” Seth stared at him. “You said, ‘I will own the world.’ You didn’t say we. You didn’t say America. You said ‘I.’ That’s a lot of responsibility for one man, Seth.”
“Don’t fucking break on me now, Spencer. We’re almost there. You know what I was trying to say.”
“Actually, I’m not sure I do any longer.” He stood with his briefcase and walked toward the door of his office. “If you’ll excuse me, I have to meet with the insurance company and get started on finding a new home formywife and I.”
“I thought you were staying in the townhome here in D.C.?” he frowned.
“I’ve given it some thought, and I think moving into the country might be better for both of us. We’re looking at some property this afternoon. I’ll see you later, Seth. Watch your back.”
“Watch my back? Is that a threat?” Spencer gripped the doorknob and then closed the door once again, slowly turning.
“No, Seth. It was a warning. I don’t think you have a fucking clue what kind of bear you’ve poked. This isn’t your average everyday bear. This is a grizzly of the meanest variety. One that can’t be shot and killed. One that can’t be bribed.
“These men got into my home, into my impenetrable safes, all of them. They took every piece of documentation we had on them, anything of value, and then burned the rest to the ground. So, if you think for one minute they’re going to let you slide, you’re delusional.”
Spencer stared at him, fuming from the lecture.
“They won’t touch me. I’m a United States Supreme Court Justice!” Spencer opened the door to the office once again, then turned, shaking his head.
“And they don’t give a flying fuck nugget.”
CHAPTER SEVENTEEN
“Dan, it’s nice to see you, brother,” smiled Luke at the video screen. Dan Harris was another weapons developer. Mostly small firearms, but he did some bigger things as well. They’d always played well together in the arena, but this time, they might actually be fighting the same enemy.
“Good to see you, Luke. What do I owe the pleasure?”
“Justice Morrison.”
“That son-of-a-bitch,” mumbled Dan. “He’s been sending letters stating that if we don’t voluntarily give up control of the factory to the government, he’ll ensure that we are forced to give it up.”
“He’s got a burr in his saddle for sure. He’s attempting to do it with all U.S. manufacturers. He wants control, Dan, and we can’t let him have it.”
“You’ve got a fuck lot more to lose than I do, Luke. I know what kind of shit you guys come up with. I’m not even close to that level. But you can’t let him have it, brother. This guy is certifiable, and if there’s ever been a power-hungry bastard, he’s it.”
“We feel the same way,” nodded Luke. “Listen, if he attempts anything on the factory, let us know, and we’ll send a couple of guys down there.”
“Brother, I appreciate it, but we’ve got a few here from the 110thunit. They’ll be watching the store for us and will not take any shit, I promise you.” Luke nodded, smiling at the man.
“You know, maybe we should set some booby-traps. I mean, Uncle Miller still loves planting the boom-boom.” The other man laughed, his head falling backwards.
“Man, that’s why I love y’all. I’ll have the boys do just that. See you soon, Luke. If you need us to testify, just call.”
Luke ended the call, turning to stare at Cam, Eric, and Hex. They were all nodding in agreement with whatever he had planned in his head.
“Hex? Make sure G.R.I.P. has extra security measures and that the stealth domes are working out there and here.” Hex nodded, leaving the room.
“Cam? Check with the seniors and see what they’ve found. I know they found something, or they’d be back by now.”
“Will do.”
