“He probably heard about us. He did this before when I dated another guy. Rich told Jim to back off, or he’d make him wish he’d never been born. Jim broke it off with me. He said he didn’t need the drama.”
“Well, I’m not going anywhere. I’d like for the prick to talk to me.”
JoJo smiled for the first time in a while. “I’d like to see that too. One punch from you, and he’d hit the floor.”
“Is he a big guy?”
“Not as big as you.”
“Aww, thank you, darlin’.”
“Oh, my God, Brett. I meant body-wise.”
“That is body-wise.”
“Well, he doesn’t compare with you there either.”
“He has a little dick,” he muttered.
“What?”
“What?” Brett raised his eyebrows.
JoJo rolled her eyes and shook her head. “He doesn’t compare to you. I never loved him.”
“Good to know. I’m not afraid of him. Any man who does what he does isn’t a man in the genuine sense.”
“I agree.”
“You’re staying here tonight, right?”
“I don’t have clothes for tomorrow. I wanted him to see me leave and ensure he didn’t follow.”
“He will, though, JoJo. I don’t know him, but I can guarantee that a guy like that wants what he thinks belongs to him, and that’s you.” He huffed. “Look, if you want to go to your apartment, we will, but only for you to get clothes and come back here. I don’t trust the son of a bitch.”
“All right. I should have just gone home first.”
“No. I don’t want you alone, darlin’. You did the right thing by coming here. Let’s hope he didn’t follow.”
“I didn’t see anyone behind Courtney. I’m sure she’ll tell Nevada.”
“Good. Come on, let’s go. We’ll take my truck.”
“I’m sorry to make you run in there. I can go, Brett.”
“No. What if Stafford knows where you live and is just waiting for you?”
She shivered. “I hope not.”
“I’d get your clothes, but I don’t know what you need.”
“We’ll go together. It’s snowing, so we’d better go.”
“Yes, ma’am.” He pulled his coat on, placed his hat on his head, and opened the door for her.
“I’m glad I didn’t take my coat off.” She laughed.
“You can relax when we get back.”
