“Depends,” JJ’s voice joined the conversation. “Can you make it worth her while?”

Rafe chuckled.

“Absolutely,” Nico said without hesitation. “Tell her to name her price.” He caught Misha’s grin and shrugged his shoulders. It was a wedding after all.

“Nico’s got a picture and description,” Rafe said.

“Send them over,” JJ said.

“Thanks, man,” Nico said with appreciation.

“No worries. I’m sure she’ll do it. She’s a sucker for romance. She won’t gouge you either.”

“I’m serious,” Nico said. “Tell her to charge a premium for rush service.”

“I will. But she won’t.”

“Coming at you,” Nico said and sent the text.

“I’ll call you after I talk to her,” JJ responded and signed off.

“You’re a good man,” Misha said as he set down his phone.

“I’m not doing anything. It’s Mrs. Yeoh that’s a good woman.”

“You think she’ll say yes?”

“JJ thinks she will. He’s going to call me back.”

“Good.” Misha nodded with satisfaction. “I feel like a worthy bridesmaid today.” She paused. “With an outstanding team behind me. You have some very good friends.”

Nico agreed. Implausible as it might have seemed at one time in his life. “Not bad for an ex-con.”

Misha frowned. “You’re not an ex-con.”

“That’s exactly what I am.”

“We all know it wasn’t your fault.”

He shook his head in disagreement. “No. A few people know it wasn’t my fault. The rest, well, all they know is what was said in court.”

She looked thoughtful for a long moment. “Do you ever want to tell the truth? Let everybody know what really happened that night?”

Nico felt a surge of unease. “No. And you can’t either.”

“I won’t.”

“I’m serious, Misha. I will never, ever, evermess up Dylan’s life. I did my time, and it’s over now.”

“It’s not over,” she said softly. “You’re practically in hiding.”

“I’m not in hiding.” But even as he protested, he knew it came too close to the truth. “I’m fine. It was worth it.”

Misha looked unconvinced.

“It was the eve of his wedding, and his fiancée was five months pregnant.”

Dylan had been drinking that night, and the other guy in the fight—a complete and utter jerk—more than had it coming. Plus, the fall and resulting head injury had been accidental.
