“Emilia?” Chase interrupted her thoughts. “Do you have a bagel preference?”

“Everything if they’ve got it. Otherwise, anything.”

Chase glanced at Nick’s back. “I guess Nick will take what he gets.”

“I’m sure it’ll be fine.” She hadn’t gotten the sense he was choosy about what he ate. Then again, she really didn’t know that much about him.

“Back soon.” Chase gave Paris a quick kiss goodbye.

“So...” Paris opened with as soon as they were alone, a gleam in her eyes as she lifted a cup of coffee with both hands. “Have a good date?”

“I did.” Emilia gave her attention to Paris. “We had a good time.”

“Clearly.” Paris sent a pointed look Nick’s way.

“Well, you too,” Emilia noted, claiming one of the remaining cups of coffee for herself.

“Bit of a stumble there when he sounded so unenthusiastic about me.”

Emilia nodded. “I hoped you two would work that out.”

“Chase said Sammy’s the family gossip.”

“So, he was playing it close to the vest?” Emilia guessed.

“Yes. Apparently, any remotely serious relationship in his family is met with questions about an engagement ring, wedding venues and how many children are planned.” She chuckled. “But he assured me in many, many ways that he thought our relationship was off to a very good start.”

Emilia smiled, happy for Paris. “That’s fantastic.”

“Misha wants to talk to you.” Nick returned to the kitchen, holding out his phone.

Emilia studied his expression, feeling like she was missing something here. “Everything okay?”

“Go ahead.” He touched the phone to her hand.

She took it, setting down her cup. “Hi, Misha.”

“Good morning,” Misha said brightly. “Good date?”

“It was.” Emilia moved into the hall, leaving Paris and Nick’s low voices behind.

“Maggie will be very happy to hear that. But you missed your interview last night.” Misha sounded disappointed.

“I looked for Kaitlin and the crew but couldn’t find them.”

“That’s what Nick just said.”

“Do you want us to do one this morning?” Emilia had felt guilty about that last night, and she felt even worse now for not holding up her end of the deal.

“I told Nick Kaitlin says she got plenty of footage, but if she needs more, I’ll hit you guys up for it, okay?”

“Of course.”

“I wanted to ask you what shoes you’re wearing for the wedding? Can you send me a picture? I’ve got a few choices, so I can coordinate to whatever you have.”

“I hadn’t thought about it yet.” Emilia realized she should have been paying more attention to the wedding details. She didn’t have much in the way of dressy shoes. She might have to buy something. “I don’t have a whole lot to choose from.”

“I was thinking gray or silver, or maybe something with a few rhinestones.”
