“Can I have your attention?” Adam's deep voice was remarkably similar to his father's.

The group quieted down, looking up at him expectantly.

Adam drew her close to his side. “I’m thrilled to announce our engagement. Krista has agreed to marry me.”

“Yay!” Amber jumped to her feet. “Welcome to the family, Krista.”

She found herself being hugged and kissed by several members of the Monroe family. Even Austin had the audacity to kiss her on the mouth, sending her a secret wink when Adam frowned.

Nancy must have understood because she was smiling and made a sign that Krista believed meant congratulations. She really needed to brush up on her sign language.

“Good choice, Adam.” Abe clapped his son on the back. “This time your mother and I wholeheartedly approve.”

This time? She glanced at Adam, her brow raised questionably. It sounded as if his parents hadn't approved of his engagement to Danielle.

Adam gave her a small nod. “I’m glad, Dad.” He pulled her in for another quick kiss. “Because I think Krista is perfect for me, too.

Tears threatened and she blinked them back with an effort.

So this was how it felt to be a part of a loving family.
