“We should go home.”

“You don’t want to party with your boys?” I ask while JD and Mav hover behind me, watching, listening.

“Nah, I want to be at home with my family. World domination can wait until tomorrow.”

I chuckle. “You’ve got it.”

We’re all wiped, and quite honestly, I want to get back before Daisy’s bedtime, so we can be the ones to put her to bed.

I know she’s okay, Kristie has been in touch on and off all day, but I still worry. I think I always will. That’s a mother’s prerogative, right?

Together, we leave the clubhouse and Reid’s brothers behind in favor of heading home.

Driving around town and not looking over our shoulders is a whole new kind of relief, so is pulling through the main gates and driving up to the manor.

As the dark harrowing building comes closer, I think back to the night Kane brought me here. I thought that was it. I truly believed that everything I hoped for and dreamed of was going to be cut short here. That after everything, it was going to be Victor Harris’s eldest son who finally put me out of my misery.

How wrong was I?

I guess, in a way, my life did end the moment Kane dragged me over the threshold, but not in a bad way.

The girl who was taken down to the basement is a very different one to the woman who emerged.

Back then, I thought I was strong; I thought I could endure anything.

But I was wrong. Yes, I had Mav to protect me, but I had no idea there was space in my heart for more.

Right now, surrounded by the men I love, I’ve not only found my true strength but also peace. From here on out, nothing can hurt me, not while I’ve got them by my side.

Together, we can do anything.

“Wait,” Reid calls once we all climb out of the car and head toward the house. “Don’t come in yet.”

I glance over at JD, but he shrugs, just as clueless as I am about what he’s doing.

We stand there, staring up at the dark building, and wait.

A minute passes with nothing, and then it happens.

The entire building lights up in a way I’ve never seen before.

It’s harrowingly beautiful and when the king of the manor emerges in the doorway, it only gets better.

It’s no longer the scary haunted house up on the hill that everyone is terrified of. It’s a home. A home that gazes down on the town it loves, protecting its land and the people who reside there.

“What do you think?” Reid asks with a wide smile, coming to join us to look at his masterpiece.

“I think it’s perfect.”

“Yeah, I agree. I think everything about this is perfect. You’re perfect.”

EPILOGUE

Alana

Istand at the sink looking out over the town below with whole new eyes.

Obviously, fixing all its problems is impossible. But even in the month that Reid’s been in charge, the changes are already visible.
