Me:Or maybe this weekend?
Me:You there?
Me:Shit, you really are playing hard to get now, aren’t you?
Me:I’m going to stop bugging you. Call me when you return.
SaarasLove:Hiiii!
Me:Wow...long time no talk, sexy girl.
SaarasLove:Life has been a little on the wild side, and I haven’t had any time to get on the app. I’m so sorry.
Me:You went MIA on me. What’s it been, about a week?
SaarasLove:It was a me thing, not a you thing. I promise.
Me:Yeah, I assumed something was up. Things good, though?
SaarasLove:Do you want to hear something funny?
Me:Always.
SaarasLove:Now I’m in Manhattan for work. You wouldn’t happen to be here again too, would you?
Me:I wish.
SaarasLove:Damn. I guess I’m not that lucky.
SaarasLove:I just had some downtime at the hotel. Thought I’d get caught up on all my social media, it’s been a min since I’ve done that.
Me:Will timing ever be on our side for round two?
SaarasLove:Life should be calming down over the next couple of weeks and I’ll be in Boston more. How about you? Do you have any travel coming up?
Me:I’ll cancel it if that means I’ll get to see you.
SaarasLove:You’re sweet.
Me:Nah, I just want you.
I waited for a response.
When I didn’t get one and still craved more of her attention, I hit the “Phone” button and said once she answered, “I’d much rather hear your voice.”
“Hello, stranger.”
Since the guys were working beside me in our living room, I went into my bedroom and shut my door. “Why are you so far away?”
I wasn’t ready to admit that every time I opened the app, I looked to see if the green light was next to her name, telling me she was online. That underneath her icon, it showed how long it had been since she’d logged on, a number I checked every day.
That I wasn’t sure how or why, but I missed her.
Even though I’d never seen her face.
Even though I knew such a limited amount about her.
But that one taste hadn’t been enough.
