The door opens again. I wonder why Igor is back. Rather, a soft, familiar voice reaches me. “Mr. Rosii, I’ve been made aware that I’m going to be your assistant.”
I glance up at an angelic face that stares at me with open shock and admiration. Her wavy black hair falls down her back and frames her pure face. She has large brown eyes and cute full lips. She’s in a full pink suit – professional, but the skirt hugs her body, beautifully showing her bust and curved hips. My mystery woman. She stands nervously, avoiding my gaze.
I rise from my seat, going to her. “What’s your name, assistant?” She steps back, tucking a stray hair behind her ear. Innocent and cute. I feel like pinching her red cheeks.
“Chasmin Burrows, sir.” She replies with a steady voice, the blush slowly leaning her cheeks. She looks into my eyes and I smile. Although she’s shy, she knows when to be assertive.
“Beautiful name for an angel. Come, have you been made aware of your duties as my assistant?” I motion her forward. She comes to stand by my side. I breathe in her soft floral cologne. I have it in mind to wrap a hand around her waist and kiss those full lips again.
I stop myself. I can’t do that. If I make any advances toward her, HR and the media will have a field day. Moreover, the consequences will be disastrous for her. I don’t want her to get hurt.
“Not yet. I was informed of my new role this morning. I’ll quickly get acquainted with my duties. I won’t fail you, sir.” She clenches her fists, a determined look on her face.
Well, there is no rule against touching, right? I pinch her cheek, drawing a straight line from her cheek to her chin with my finger. She stammers, stepping back. I narrow my eyes,so reserved.
“Calling mesirmakes me feel older than I am. Call me Lance while I call you Chasmin.” I clap my hand, showing that’s how it’s going to be.
“But, sir…”
“Lance…” I correct her.
“Sir…Lance.” She bites her lip, looking aggrieved. “That will be highly unprofessional.”
I step closer till she has her back pressed against the wall. “I told you in the elevator, I make the rules around here. So, what I say goes, get it, Chasmin?” I whisper in her ear. Her body shivers, and she lets out a weak moan.
“I didn’t know you were the COO. I’m just learning about that. Sorry, sir…Lance.”
I gaze into her clear eyes, arching an eyebrow. She doesn’t know; that surprises me. Everyone in the company ought to know my identity. Also, I’ve been in the news and several scandals involving my dating life. For someone not to know what I look like is incredulous.
I lift her chin with a finger. “First lesson as my assistant is to memorize this face well. I’m your boss, the COO, and also the head of the Acquisitions Department. As my assistant, you have to know a lot about me, so you better start learning.”
“Yes, Lance.”
I step away, reining in my excitement. I can’t be too close to her. She’s my assistant and that should be it, but I don’t believe that. “Let’s get to work. I have a busy schedule, so I can’t wait till you learn what your duties are. Stay with me and familiarize yourself with what I do. You’ll learn faster that way.” I’m taking a bit of liberty here, keeping her by my side. Why learn from someone else when I can have her all to myself.
“That sounds fantastic.” She seems to forget the awkward position we are in. When she moves, her breasts press against my chest, and her lips are inches from kissing me. She blushes, moving back.
Chuckling at her cute appearance, I return to my seat and she follows. To learn of course. For the rest of the week, I’m unable to act on my impulse to make advances at Chasmin due to the intensity of the year end work. Either I’m traveling or hopping from one meeting to another. Chasmin proves herself to be capable, memorizing my schedule while helping me with my work. The few intimate moments I get to have with her are full of fun and laughter.
She is warming up to my touch and presence, which I like. I still battle with myself whether I should be with her and risk the scandal. This week, I’m free, with little to do in my office. I’m waiting for Chasmin to return from the copy room with a document I requested. She’s taking longer than expected, which is unusual for her.
Leaving my office, I head to the copy room to find her. A red and green ribbon pinned to both the left and right walls acts like a guide. Reaching it, I find the door slightly ajar. I am about to push it in but stop when I hear the ongoing conversation between two ladies.
“As an assistant to the COO, staying at a motel is a shame. What kind of life is that?” the first woman giggles. They’re talking about Chasmin. Gossips like this happen all the time, but what I find strange is that Chasmin is living in a motel.
“It certainly can’t be me. I was driving to work and saw her leaving the motel. At first, I thought she had gone to see a man there for some fun…” They laugh. “By asking around, I found out that she lives there. It’s sad,” says the second woman.
“I don’t know why she became Mr. Rosii’s assistant. We’re more qualified than….” The first woman stops mid-sentence as the clicking of someone’s heels grows louder. “She’s coming!” The woman whispers harshly and keeps quiet.
I take my hand from the door, returning to my office. A minute later, Chasmin enters, setting down the file on my desk. She’s silent, her head down. The droplet hanging on her chin and the awkward tear wipes shows she’s been crying. If I bring up the topic now, it will only hurt her more, knowing that I’ve found out.
“You should take a moment,” I offer. She sniffles, nodding before leaving my office. I wonder what problems she’s dealing with by living in a motel. As my assistant, she ought to be somewhere better.
At the end of the day, I meet her outside the company. She’s leaving. I rest a hand on her shoulder, stopping her. “Let me get you home. You’ve been working so hard lately, it’s the least I can do for you.”
She smiles apologetically. “Thanks, Lance but you should be on your way. I have some other issues to take care of and can’t accept your offer.” She looks down at her feet, clenching her back tightly. I’m afraid she suspects that I’ve found it.
“Rather than trying to hide it from me, Chasmin, why don’t you move into my place? It’ll be more conducive for your work as my assistant.” I give her a sidelong glance as she thinks about it.
