She was perfect for us. I still didn’t want her to see how broken I was, but in this moment, I didn’t care about a thing except for making sure I did everything to keep Abbey right there with us.
“Is that what sex is supposed to be like?” Her soft voice filtered through my thoughts.
“Yes,” I answered softly, realizing this was important.
“Maybe a little extra, since there are two of us. Why?” Liam and I stared at her. She’d mentioned earlier she hadn’t orgasmed in years. Now I wondered how long her ex had ignored her needs.
“Because it’sneverbeen like that for me.” A dreamy smile tugged at her lips as she closed her eyes and drifted off to sleep.
I looked at Liam, and he shrugged. I wanted to admit it’d never been like this for me either, but her breathing had evened out, and I didn’t want to chance waking her.
With Abbey in the middle, Liam and I shifted to settle in around her. I wrapped my arm around her middle and pulled her close, settling her against my chest. Abbey slung her arm around Liam’s waist, and he moved in beside her.
It didn’t take long for me to drift to sleep, waking an hour later to Abbey moaning. She was turned toward me, with Liam buried deep inside her from behind. This time I got to see her face as she reached her climax—the way her eyes fluttered shut and mouth opened in a silent scream. It made me rock hard in an instant and wanting to dive between her legs the moment Liam pulled out, but she needed time.
“Hungry, darlin’?” I asked when her stomach growled an hour later. We had just finished fucking again and were laying lazily in bed, waiting for us all to catch our breaths.
“Ravenous,” she said, licking her lips. I groaned, thinking about how that tongue had licked every inch of my dick earlier.
“What do we even have in the kitchen?” Liam kissed Abbey’s bare shoulder.
“Stay right there, darlin’. Liam and I will find something to eat for us,” I said, tapping Abbey on the nose and venturing to the kitchen.
We put together a buffet of all the things we had left to eat in the house for dinner and fed it to Abbey in bed. Then we had Abbey again for dessert. It was one of the best days off I’d had in forever. I didn’t want to think about going to work the next day. It was going to be tough to leave Abbey for my night shift. I’d only had her for eight hours, and I was addicted to her already.
The sun peeking through the windows was my only indication of the time. I’d missed waking up for my run but wasn’t disappointed about it. I felt refreshed and had the best sleep I’d had in a long time. It wasn’t until the chime of a missed call and then an incoming call had me realizing what woke me in the first place.
My phone rang again from my discarded pants somewhere on the floor. Unwrapping myself from Abbey’s warm body, I found the culprit and saw it was Gavin. As much as I didn’t want to answer, I had to. What if Blake was going into labor or there was an emergency on the ranch?
“What’s wrong, Gav?” I whispered, not wanting to wake anyone.
“You know I wouldn’t call you unless it was an emergency.” His voice sounded strained. I didn’t like it.
“I know. What’s going on? Is Blake okay?”
“She’s good. It’s about the ranch. We had a breach in the fence, on the back lot by the road. We aren’t sure how many heads got out yet.”
“I’m on my way. Let’s round up some guys and see if we can’t get the escapees.” I glanced over at Abbey. So much for spending the day with her. This took precedence and not knowing how much cattle we lost, it could take all day to rustle them up.
“Duke, it’s not just that.” I tensed, waiting for his next words. “The wire looks like it was cut.”Fuck.
“Who would come this far out here to vandalize our ranch?”
“I have no idea. You need to come take a look.”
“Let me grab Maverick, and I’ll call you for your location.”
I disconnected and caught Liam’s eyes in the dim light. He gave a firm nod, and I knew he’d heard everything. As much as I didn’t want to leave Abbey after the night we’d had, I had work to do. I had a ranch to keep safe, which also meant keeping her safe.
ABBEY
When I woke, I was sprawled across Liam. Duke was gone. When I asked Liam where he went off to so early, he said Duke had some business to take care of. My stomach twisted, thinking maybe yesterday was too much, and he was avoiding me. The past few days, I’d discovered Duke had a routine. He got up early, went for a run, and then came home, showered, and made breakfast. Duke was nowhere to be found, the kitchen was empty, and Jax was asleep on the couch.
What if he didn’t enjoy last night as much as I had? Maybe it was only supposed to be one night, and today we were going back to the way things were. My heart ached at that thought. I’d had the best sex of my life with Duke and Liam, and I didn’t want to go back. I wanted more of it. It sure felt like Liam wanted that too, by the way he kissed me before I left to meet the girls. It had taken a lot of convincing to let me go to breakfast without him. If he had his way, he would be feeding me breakfast in bed.
As much as I didn’t want to think it, we needed to get back to the reality of things. I lived in another state, and I just came out of a terrible relationship. I knew I needed to get home and pack my things. I needed to find a new place to live and a job.
I took my notebook with me, so I could start making a list of the things I needed to get done. “Do any of you know of any job openings around here?” I asked between bites of my pancakes.
