“Go ahead and make yourself comfortable. Can I get you something to drink?”

“Sure, what do you have?” Hunter walked into the living room and sat on the couch.

“Water, orange juice, and Zinfandel.”

“Water, please.”

“One water coming up.”

I grabbed two bottles of water, walked in, and set one on the coffee table in front of him, then I unscrewed the cap of my own. I took a sip or two as I watched him fumble with his fingers. He appeared to be lost in thought, and the happy demeanor that he’d had earlier had evaporated. He looked almost grief-stricken. Maybe he was thinking about being in my place knowing he had a girlfriend waiting for him to come home.Nah, he wouldn’t do that, would he?He looked so freaking good I wanted to hold him in my arms and ask him if everything was all right, but I had no idea what he was agonizing over. And after his abrupt stop, he might have said something I really didn’t want to hear. I’d have given nearly anything to know, still. The few moments of silence were nearly unbearable.

I set my water on the table and walked over to the DVDs and found the movie of the night. Within minutes I had the TV on and the DVD ready for me to push play once I took a seat with a cushion separating us from each other.

“Are you ready for this movie?” I asked.

He looked up at me and forced a smile. “Exactly how does one get ready for a chick flick?”

We both laughed.

“I suggest you take a deep breath, sit back, hold your water nice and tight, and just let the movie happen. There’s really not a way to get ready, but it’s a really good movie,” I said.

“So you say.” He winked at me. He was so freaking gorgeous.

Hunter

We sat on the couch and watched the movie for the first several minutes without saying a word to each other. I was trying really hard to get into it, but it wasn’t happening. The cute little blonde was pretty hot, but other than her, the movie wasn’t worth my time. I stole glances at Jackie. She was definitely into this crazy movie. Her facial expressions changed from smiling to frowning, depending on what was going on.

Every time I looked at her I wanted to slap myself to make sure I wasn’t dreaming.

“You really like this sappy movie?” I asked after a while.

“Sappy? This movie is awesome. I love Meg Ryan. And Jonah is such a little sweetheart. You’re not enjoying it?”

“Not in the least.”

“Would you like to watch something else? I don’t have a huge DVD collection, but you can look to see if anything seems more interesting to you.”

I made my way over to her DVD stand. I could feel her eyes following me with each step. I felt like I was being tested. I knew I had to find something, but what? At least my choices were from movies she had purchased, so she must like them all. But if she was anything like me, she’d have her favorites of the comedy genre. Which to pick? Which to pick?

My hand bounced betweenSuper Badand21 Jump Street. I’d seen both one too many times already, but they were the most palatable of the movies she owned.

“This one,” I said, choosing21 Jump Street.

“Really? I’m surprised. I thought you would have pickedBorat.”

“I can’t stand that movie.”

When she stood to put the DVD in the player, I quickly took my seat to get a view of her perfect ass. She had such a small waist, and her hips flared as she bent over. It was a beautiful sight. Almost as beautiful as her face. And her legs, Jesus, they went for miles it seemed. They were perfectly shaped too.

She turned and faced me. My breath leaked from my lungs, leaving my chest feeling like it had been deflated. She slayed me. What the hell was it about her?

“Are you sure you can get through this one?” she asked.

“I’m positive.”

“We’ll see.” She smirked at me. Her gaze stayed locked on me as she made her way back to her spot on the couch. Once she sat down, she focused on the TV. She was keeping a good amount of distance between us. I knew we had just met, but I felt like we were miles apart. In all actuality, there was probably only about a foot and a half between us. Too far.

My eyes shifted between the movie and sneaking glimpses of her. Everything about her was perfection.
