The roller coaster ride navigated by Nikki and Jeff came to a happy ending. Nikki also finally figured out Hunter and I were a couple. I wanted to tell her before we left, but I confirmed her suspicion. Jeff knew, so there would have been no use trying to hide our relationship any longer.

We all returned to our happy homes to pick up where we left off. I kept my distance from the Carrington house for a couple of weeks so the two lovebirds could solidify their commitment to each other again. They had a lot to celebrate, getting past the rough patch and Jeff no longer traveling for his job.

Hunter and I resumed our happy lives during that time too.

“Are you glad to be home?” I asked Jackie.

“Oh. My. God. I’m so happy to be here.”

“I have a question for you.” I inhaled deep. I wanted to ask Jackie this question before she rushed off to Vegas with Nikki. I turned toward her, took her hand in mine, and began to sweat. I knew this may be moving faster than she expected, but I thought it made all the sense in the world. I loved her and couldn’t imagine my life without her.

“Will you –.” I looked up and saw her eyes widen. Her fingers wiggled in my hand. “What’s it been now? Almost eight or nine months?”

“Yeah,” she said. Her response was a little louder than a whisper.

“I don’t know about you, but I want more time for us to be together. I’m tired of leaving in the wee hours and going back to my place. What do you think of us living together?”

“I think I’d love that.”

“Really?”

“Yeah. Really.” She leaned in, and her soft, full lips met mine. My arms wrapped around her and lifted her onto my lap.

“Where should we live?”

“I’ll be honest, Hunter. I’m sick of my place, and yours is too small. Let’s leave our pasts in the past and find somewhere new. Somewhere we can make our own memories without old business interfering.”

“That sounds great. My apartment is easy to leave, but you have to sell your unit. That could take months. Maybe we can live there in the meantime.”

“You’re reading my mind. I was just going to suggest that.”

“I’ll begin moving my stuff this weekend. Then I’ll be ready to help you paint or whatever you need.”

Chapter 31

Hunter

Getting the unit ready to sell took longer than either of us expected. We both thought a fresh coat of paint would suffice, but the realtor gave us a freaking list as long as my forearm. Some things we were able to do, but others, like replacing the carpet, we had to leave to the professionals.

We both hated spending the money, but we got everything done two and a half months after the initial walk-through. The work and decisions caused us both to lose our tempers with each other more than once. But it was all good now. The realtor did her follow-up and we were listed. Finally.

“Baby, hurry up,” I said.

“I’m coming. Just five more minutes.”

I grabbed my keys and wallet, then paced while I waited.Tonightwas a surprise. I told Jackie we were celebrating getting the place on the market.

“You have one minute, darling,” I said. She stepped out of the bathroom and took my breath away. My cock twitched in approval. She got more beautiful with each passing day. Her teal knee-length sleeveless dress fit her sexy body like a glove. I couldn’t wait to strip it off of her later.

“What do you think? Worth the wait or not?” she asked.

“Definitely worth the wait. You look fantastic,” I said. I closed the distance between us and kissed her cheek. “You smell great too.”

“Thank you. You look amazing, as always.”

I reached for her hand and interlaced our fingers. “We need to leave now, before I change my mind and make love to you right here.”
