Running my hands through my hair, I decide I can't just sit outside watching.

“Fuck this,” I mumble, getting out of the truck.

Heading toward the door, the stairs creak with each step I take.

Suddenly the door opens wide revealing Nova on the other side, hand on her hip, glaring at me.

“You guys just couldn’t give me space?”

“Baby girl, did you really think we’d leave you all alone?” She rolls her eyes at me, giving me a death glare as I look over and smile at her.

“Go,” she demands.

“Abso-fucking-lutely not,” I snap.

“I don’t need shadows, Jordy,” she says, expelling a large breath.

“We’re just watching out for you, baby girl. Ain’t no way they’re coming anywhere near you,” I say, earning another glare.

“Do you ever listen?” she chastises me.

Shaking my head, I give her a smile. “Not when it comes to your safety.”

“You stay outside,” she says. I don’t respond. “Jordan,” she simply says.

Throwing my head back with a groan, I grit out, “Fine.”

Slamming the door in my face, I hear the locks click into place. I wait then go around back to make sure she’s locked all access points.

Climbing to the second story like I’m fucking Spiderman, I search the windows, making sure they too are locked. Nothing’s stopping them from breaking a window, but I’m hoping our presence scares them off.

I head back down going back to the front of the house. Nova pulls the curtain back and watches me as I make my way back to the car. Giving her a salute and a smile, I earn another eye roll as the curtain falls closed.

Nervous energy flows through me, so I decide to walk the perimeter of the house.

I can never sleep, I can’t stop dreaming about that night and now that my parents are gone for good, a weird feeling sits inside me. I can’t describe it, something just doesn’t feel right.

Walking around Nova’s entire house my eyes zone in on the woods that sits at the back of her property, the ones we chased her though that first night, fuck that was the beginning of it all.

I look back at the house seeing all the lights turned out and hope she’s finally sleeping. Glancing back at the woods, I catch sight of a figure standing at a distance, fuck.

Clutching my gun at my back, I pull it out, holding it up, aiming it at them. They tilt their head, look at me, then take off in the opposite direction.

Pulling my phone out I pull up Cass’ name.

“Yeah,” he grumbles into the receiver.

“Just spotted someone at Nova’s.”

I hear rustling in the background, knowing he’s probably getting dressed.

“I’m on my way. Don’t let her out of your sight,” he grumbles.

Hanging up, I look up to Nova’s window. Sorry, baby girl, guess I’m breaking my promise of staying outside.

She can hate me more later, whoever that was knows she’s home and they won’t stop until they have her.

Something outside wakes me.I’m a little dazed, unsure how long I’ve been asleep for, but hearing voices makes me jolt upright in bed.
