I see a flash of white teeth. I’m hesitant to come down from my perch because Yarek is part of Pack Samuels, but we knew each other before he joined the pack. We were friends once.
I ease my way down, and when I reach the lower levels; he grips my hips, carefully lowering me to the ground. As soon as I’m down, I step back, but his hands hold me for a second too long. My alarm spikes, but I ground it quickly and force a smile. Aniseed and thyme, his scent wraps around me, potent and nauseating.
“What are you doing out here alone?”
I snort and elbow him, discreetly putting more space between us. “Came to see the old home.”
“Yeah, but you’re an omega now.”
I don’t like the way he says that. I check the shadows for more of his pack. But my fear is starting to rise. If he uses his alpha bark at me, I won’t be able to resist his command. I feel a whimper trying to rise, and the stupidity of this decision weighs heavily on me. Today, I forgot I was an omega. How stupid can I be?
I lean against the metal poles and scan our surroundings. He leans beside me, facing me, his hot breath wafting over me.
“Not mated yet, huh?”
“Soon.” I say firmly, hoping to end the conversation.
“Hey,” he croons, leaning in closer. “If you’re in any trouble, my pack can help. We adore you. You just say the word.”
I shake my head. “I’m fine. Do you remember when we were kids? Before everything happened, and we were friends?” I say, pulling out the friend’s card and praying this works.Delay, buy time, remind them that you’re more than an omega,Oma’s voice whispers in my mind.
“Yeah, you used to beat me up,” he accuses.
“I can still do it, too.” I promise him with a laugh.
“Oh, now, I doubt that. All I need to do is,” he drags his fingers up my arm, “that, and you’ll be putty in my hands.”
“Don’t count on it.” I hiss, letting go of the pretense of civility.
“You need an alpha bond. I can feel your need.” He reaches down and adjusts himself.
“Yarek, don’t!” I warn.
“You need me!” He whispers.
“I need a life transplant, not a dick.” I say and roll my eyes.
“You need a knot.” He growls. “Missy, you’re marked, sweetheart. There’s no escaping for you. You’ve been bought and paid for. Surrender now, and it won’t end up so bad. You just have to stop fighting.”
It’s dangerously close to a bark. I can feel my stupid, treasonous body starting to respond. My heat is too close.
“I had a crush on you for so long. I imagined this…you’re beautiful, sexy. I want to bury my cock in your cunt so deep. I can make you feel so good. I want to make you mine.”
I blink back frantic tears and take a step away. “Yarek, please, don’t do this.”
“I love the way you say my name.”
“Your pack. What will they say?”
“They will be thrilled to welcome you.”
He lunges, and I jerk back, tripping over a rock and hitting the ground hard. I wait for the heavy weight of him to land on me, but see dark shapes hurling between us.
Darion! Holy hell, Darion is standing between me and Yarek.
Darion lets out a savage growl. Relief crushes me, and I can’t control the whimper as I climb to my feet.
“You think to touch my omega?” Darion snarls. “She is ours.”
