"Jasiah, please..."
"No. Maya, no."
She sat back in her chair and took a deep breath. "Would you let me stay with you? I can be there as protection."
His left eyebrow rose and a small grin formed on his lips. "You want to stay with me? In my cabin? I only have one bed."
Whoa. What. The. Hell. Just. Happened? Electrical currents ran through her entire body. Her nipples pebbled so hard she could cut glass with them. The look on his face, turned to one of a dare. He laid a dare at her feet.
"One is all we need."
"That so?" He leaned forward and lowered his voice. "I think you need to know something. I'm a man, who is extremely attracted to you. If you're sleeping in my bed, we likely won't be sleeping much."
"Is that a promise?"
Now, both of his eyebrows jutted into his hair. "You've got it, baby."
And now, just in a few short minutes, she was going to sleep with Jasiah Weston while also protecting him. That seemed like...words escaped her. It seemed like something of a cheesy romance movie. It seemed they'd have probably gotten there eventually the way they were flirting...Son of a bitch, she'd been flirting with Jasiah.
"You're speechless now?" He chuckled. "Are you thinking about changing your mind?" He teased.
She slowly shook her head. "Oh, I'm not at all changing my mind. You've been flirting with me all day. It's time you put your money, or your..." She nodded to below the table, "Where your mouth is."
He laughed out loud. He was quite possibly the most handsome man on the face of the earth.
"Don't you mean, whereyourmouth is?"
Her eyes flew open wide but she couldn't stop the smile that slid across her face. It felt like a grinch smile, slowly growing. "Deal." She said it softly and enjoyed watching the look in his eyes as he thought about what that just meant.
If his reaction was at all a measurement, she was pretty freaking good at flirting.
Jasiah waved the waitress down. "May we get our bill please?"
Maya giggled, proud of herself. She wiped her hands on her napkin. Then, decided to test her flirting skills a tad more. She licked her fingers, slowly, sucking the tips into her mouth before moving on to the next one. Jasiah looked like he was about to jump her from across the table right in front of everyone. He watched each of her fingers move in and out of her mouth. His pupils, though hard to see with the depth of brown in his eyes, grew. His jaw clenched. And, he squirmed in his chair.
He huffed, "Geezes."
She smiled and packed that little tidbit away for later. He liked that.
The waitress dropped their bill off. "You can pay up front. Do you need boxes to go?"
He replied, "No."
He stood, stepped around to her chair, and before pulling it out for her, he leaned close to her ear and said, "You'll pay for that."
She giggled. "God, I sure hope so."
He pulled her chair away from the table, took her hand and practically hauled her to the front desk. He laid money on top of the bill. "Give the rest to our waitress." Then continued out of the restaurant, her hand firmly locked in his.
She finally got her head in order as they reached the door and pulled back, stopping his progress.
"Scared?" He said as he turned to look into her eyes.
"Not of you. I want to make sure the killer isn't out there."
He closed his eyes briefly and she tapped out a text to Myles. She received a reply instantly.
"We're chasing him to Brookswood."
