He gripped the back of my head gently and pulled me closer towards him. His mouth was on mine instantly, hot and feverish, making me burn. He pulled away too quickly, stepping back from me and leaving me feeling bereft.
“We don’t have time for all the things I want to do to you, and I don’t think you’re ready for them yet, anyway.”
I felt like stamping my foot. What was it with the men in my life trying to decide what I needed?
“I’ll decide what I’m ready for. Thank you very much.”
A grin split his face as he pulled me back and kissed me again, hard and fast.
“You’re killing me, temptress. If you say you’re ready, I’m going to give you everything you want. But I will not take your virginity in some quick, hard fuck. Your first time’s going to take all night and you’re going to remember it forever. I suspect I’m also not the only one who’s going to want to be there for that.”
I was suddenly so wet, I could feel wetness soaking my thighs. The thought of them watching while one of them took my virginity had me almost panting. I was more than ready. Cary groaned, and his pupils blew out. His own scent spiked in response, the vanilla becoming more decadent and saturating the surrounding air.
A sudden knock at the door had us springing apart. “Sorry to interrupt,” came Ryder’s tight voice. “But we have incoming. I can see a chopper coming in fast over the trees.”
Cary gave me another quick kiss before he turned and slid out the door. I heard Ryder sniff the air and groan as Cary walked past, before I rushed back into the bathroom and cleaned myself up quickly. Cary’s scent seemed to linger as I got dressed in a pair of jeans and pulled a t-shirt over my head. My wardrobe had been mostly pretty dresses, but they’d allowed us some casual clothes to wear in our rooms.
I pulled the tee up to my nose on impulse and sniffed it. Cary’s scent was all over it, as though he’d rubbed my clothes on himself, marking them, and me. I grinned. Two could play that game. I pulled the t-shirt tight around my middle and knotted it underneath my breasts. I’d seen one of the Palace maids wear hers the same way. She must have been on her day off and had been flirting with one of the security guards. He’d pulled her into a storeroom and I’d quickly walked the other way.
I was showing a lot more skin than I usually did, and my jeans were old and tight, so they left little to the imagination. I didn’t care. A new awareness of my body seemed to make every movement feel sensual. I could suddenly feel every curve, and I felt flushed and feverish. If Cary was going to leave me hanging, he could suffer, too. As soon as I stepped out into the room, I realized I may have taken a bigger bite of my cake than I’d intended. I was suddenly choking on the frosting.
Wolf, River, Ryder, Cary, and Nick stilled and turned their heads my way as I walked into the lounge area. Their eyes instantly fixed on my exposed midriff, and the way my tied t-shirt emphasized my breasts. The room exploded with scents and a series of growls punctuated the air.
I held my head high and refused to cower or cover myself. My attention snagged on the way River was kneeling at Wolf’s feet, though. Wolf had showered too, and was wearing clean clothes as well. But his feet were bare and River was wrapping them in bandages.
I rushed over. “Wolf, why didn’t you tell me you were hurt?”
He looked like he was struggling to get his brain back online as I kneeled next to River. River was taking shallow breaths, trying not to breathe too deeply, as he re-started wrapping Wolf’s feet after letting the gauze go slack. “It’s not as bad as it looks. He banged his feet up running through the forest, but most of it was pretty shallow. It should be fine in a few days.”
“I don’t care,” I cried as I threw my arms around Wolf. “You should have told me. I would have tended to you.”
I’d all but climbed in his lap, and he pulled me in further. I’d never been so tactile with another person before. But something about Wolf lowered my inhibitions and overrode my training instinctively. As if someone had molded his lap as the perfect seat, just for me. He didn’t seem to mind.
“You needed sleep last night, and we had other things going on this morning,” he growled into my neck.
His warm hand on the naked skin of my waist fried my brain, and I had no response. Before anyone else could say anything, the sound of a chopper getting closer had me scrambling to stand up. Nick threw a pair of clean socks at Wolf and he put them on quickly before River helped him with his boots.
I looked out the window to see a helicopter landing on the lawn outside our verandah. “Hurry, we need to get down there before Lexi and Maia start shooting.”
River chuckled, but he’d only met Lexie briefly, and hadn’t met Maia at all. Alone, they were both capable women. Together, they were formidable.
I turned for the door, but Ryder had blocked my way. His eyes raked me over, and he cocked his eyebrow. He opened his mouth as if he was about to say something about my choice of clothes. I narrowed my eyes at him, and he hastily put up his hands. There was a small yellow flower in one of them. He swallowed with a visible gulp.
“You always used to wear a flower in your hair,” he said. “May I?”
He sounded so nervous, which was unlike Ryder. I nodded at him as my throat thickened. He leaned closer and tucked it gently into the loose bun I’d quickly pulled my hair into.
“Thank you,” I whispered, as I gave him a quick peck on the cheek before bolting for the stairs. I could hear the guys scrambling behind me.
I ran down the stairs and out the front doors, just as Lexie and Maia hopped out of the helicopter. Nick had been right. As soon as they saw me, they barreled for me too, with Damon and Sam hot on their heels, yelling at them to wait. Maia was wearing an oversized military jacket, rolled up at the arms, with a pair of jeans. While Lexie was wearing her favorite denim overalls with a crop top underneath and a long cardigan.
I collided with them in a mess of arms and hair, as we tried to hug each other at once. I accidentally bumped heads with Lexie and she laughed as she rubbed hers.
“Girl, you are going to be the death of us,” Maia mumbled into the side of my face, where she had squished herself. One of the medals on her jacket felt like it was going to puncture my boob, but I didn’t complain.
Lexie pulled back to look me over as she gave a short wolf whistle. “That’s a good look on you, Ava. Is it working for you?”
“It might if you two weren’tcocktail blocking me right now. You really shouldn’t have wasted the fuel on a trip here. I’m perfectly fine,”
