Luna wandered out of the dining room, where she was preparing for her next court date.
She was smart enough to keep a poker face on, smiling at the sight of the three people who could take me down.
And judging by the suspicion in their tightened eyes, they might do so right now.
“Mayor.” She smiled. “I’m surprised to see you here.” She glanced at Sean with curiosity, then settled her eyes on Rinaldi.
“Did you find something with that letter?” Luna asked.
Rinaldi’s brows furrowed. “The letter?”
Luna’s lips thinned. “The one that threatened my father’s life.”
“Oh, not yet,” Rinaldi said.
Other people might not have noticed Luna’s slight facial change, but I did. She was frustrated, not only that the cops hadn’t found anything, but that Rinaldi had to be reminded of its existence.
In Luna’s mind, the threat to her father was everything, but Rinaldi clearly wasn’t here to talk about her father. You don’t drag the mayor along for something like that. Whatever they were here for was bigger, but Luna wasn’t going to let them off that easily.
“Have they looked through surveillance footage?” Luna crossed her arms over her chest.
“We’re working on it,” Rinaldi said. “But that’s not why we’re here. We would like to talk to you, Mr. Lockwood.”
“Actually,” I said, “I was just heading out for an errand.”
“What errand would that be?” Rinaldi asked.
I swear to hell, if Mayor Kepler and Rinaldi weren’t standing here right now, I’d deck Sean in his jaw for looking at me like he’d just made a chess move that was about to ruin me.
“A private one,” I said. “Do you mind telling me what this is about?”
“Sean, what are you doing here?” Luna asked.
Sean glared at her. How dare he look at her like that? The next chance I got, I’d slam my fist into his teeth for giving her that look.
“You and I need to talk,” Sean said to her.
How dare he speak to her in that clipped tone? It was everything I could do to keep my arm at bay.
Grayson stood to my left, his tight gaze sweeping methodically from person to person.
“We need to ask you some questions in private,” Rinaldi said to me.
“I’m happy to answer questions. But as I said, now is not a good time.”
“We can be quick,” she said. “May we look in your garage?”
I blinked. “My garage?”
“Yes.”
Shit.
“For what purpose?”
“We received an anonymous tip,” the detective said.
Sean smirked.
