Damn. If they’d uncovered my underground garage in their previous searches, I’d already be in cuffs. My luck might run out any second.
As soon as she left, Grayson approached me.
He must’ve read the look on my face because he whispered, “That car is a problem, isn’t it?”
“So is the tunnel leading from the garage.” I kept my tone so low, too, no one would be able to hear us.
“Yeah. Nice dungeon, brother. I have questions, but first, as for theproblems…” His gaze darted to the hospital room door. “I’ll take care of it.”
“Grayson, the woods are a crime scene. There’s police tape and probably cops positioned less than a half mile from the garage. There’s nothing you can do without getting caught.”
“You’d be surprised what I’m able to do without getting caught.”
And then my suspicious, elusive, grumpy-ass brother winked at me.
“I’ll tell Jace and Bryson they can come in.”
“They’re here?”
“Thought it was best they heard this from me rather than on the news.”
“Do they know about Alexander?”
“I told them thepertinentinformation,” Grayson hedged. “Now, I have to get going. I’m going to check on Luna on my way out.”
CHAPTER71
Luna
“So, Hunter’s really going to be okay?” The backs of my eyes prickled with tears.
Grayson took a moment, as if remembering all the challenges they’d faced together. “Hunter’s always been a fighter.” His voice held a trace of brotherly pride. “He’ll pull through this.”
Normally, I hated crying in front of people, but I felt close to Grayson because of what we’d been through.
“Thank you,” I said. “For what you did for Hunter.”
“I would do anything for my brother.”
“He’s lucky to have you.”
Grayson rubbed the back of his neck, his face stoic.
“You’re a really good guy, Grayson.”
An unreadable expression came across his face.
“Trust me, Luna. I’m not a good guy.”
I could tell by his tone that he wasn’t heartbroken or full of self-doubt; rather, he said it factually, as if he accepted who he was and was simply clarifying it for my own sake. And whoever he was, evidently, was someone I shouldn’t admire.
Grayson had an ominous aura surrounding him, one I was curious as hell to know more about.
“Care to elaborate?” I asked.
His gaze hardened, and he said, “No,” in a tone of finality, ending any further inquiry on the topic.
Which only piqued my curiosity, but if he had secrets, I wouldn’t try to draw them out. And no matter what he claimed, he’d always be a good guy in my book.
