He was armed with a knife, then.

It was helpful information that he didn’t have a gun.

It’d play into how I took him down.

What a good fucking girl she was.

I stepped closer to the corner where my uncle was waiting to ambush me and pressed my back to it, just in case he had the bright idea to suddenly lunge for me.

I began to slide closer.

I kept my footsteps light, concealing my location, while Luna stared forward, not looking at me, but rather at the tunnel.

Damn, she was smart. He’d think I was still walking directly in front of her, not up against the wall like this.

She even kept her eyes wide, as if she was trying to communicate to what was actually a blank space.

Approaching the edge of the wall, I clasped the knife’s handle firmer, and took two more steps.

And then sprang around the corner.

CHAPTER63

Hunter

Islammed my forearm to his chest, pushing him against the wall he’d been hiding against, and brought my knife to his throat.

“Drop it,” I demanded.

I looked into the eyes of the man who I thought would protect me with his life and watched defiance coat them in rage.

Alexander swung, but I knocked his arm out of the way before he could drive his knife into my body.

He used his other forearm to shove at me. Hard. Not strong enough to knock me down, but it did rock me back on my heels a couple of feet and afforded him the space he needed to charge me.

When his shoulder collided with my ribs, I quickly latched on to his frame and heaved him to the concrete ground. He let out a deep groan, his body stunned by the impact as I stepped on his sweaty wrist, the bone beneath my shoe. His fingers uncurled, dropping the glinting knife that clattered into nothingness.

“You had my father killed,” I growled and stomped until his wrist snapped like a twig.

He howled in pain. I had overpowered him, and I could kill him right here and now. I could slit his throat or snap his neck.

I could end him.

Easily.

He deserved it for what he did to my father. And what he did to Luna, her father, and that kid all those years ago.

Or I could go to the authorities and let the justice system prevail.

He could tell them what he’d found down here, though, so yes. Turning him in risked my freedom, but this was the ultimate choice, wasn’t it? Even bigger than Stanley.

I lifted my foot and watched my uncle shrivel into the fetal position while Luna moaned, drawing my attention to her.

Shit. Her thigh.

Thank hell I had a belt on.

I ran to her and knelt down, setting the knife aside.
