With sorrow tumbling through his features, he cupped my cheek, and after a few seconds, he offered a slight nod as he whispered, “I would do anything for you, Luna.”

My heart rejoiced at his words, at the resolution on his face. There was no guarantee Hunter would get away with his crimes, no guarantee we had a tomorrow together.

But at least he wasn’t going to turn himself in.

At least the future wasn’t doomed.

I brushed his cheekbone with my thumb, then gripped the back of his head, pulling his face closer to mine. His mouth lingered above my own, his quickened breaths that smelled of peppermint thick with hesitation.

“Luna…”

“I want you.”

Hunter inhaled a shaky breath, and his eyes locked on mine with a laser intensity unmatched by anyone else.

“You just suffered a terrible loss.”

Yes. I was drowning in heartache, and my only life raft was him—the hope of our future and the possibility that I could focus on something other than this sharp agony piercing my heart. If only for a few minutes.

“Make me forget,” I whispered in breathless desperation. “Make me feel something other than pain.”

Hunter’s eyebrows fell into empathy.

Would he deny me this? Desire pulsed through his features—with his moistened lips, his tightened muscles—and I wanted him to stop fighting it.

Surrender to me, Hunter.

I pulled his face closer to mine again, his body taut with indecision.

I wanted his mouth on mine. I wanted his hands on my body, and I wanted to feel him inside of me—stretching me and filling me until it consumed my every breath, every thought.

I needed this…

Especially now. This man was willing to kill for me. Not just to save my life, but to hunt down an enemy who stole my father and broke my heart.

I’d never known a life this good, and after everything that just happened, this energy between us was wonderfully new and explosively heightened at the same time.

“Please,” I stuttered.

Hunter’s hot breath bounced off my lips as a gentle breeze tossed his dark locks into his forehead and mixed the scent of his musk cologne with freshly cut grass. The sun warmed my face, but it wasn’t as warm as his palm as it trailed down my cheek—his thumb and finger pinching my chin and lifting it higher.

His mouth hovered over mine, pausing there for a torturous few seconds before he finally surrendered.

His lips were soft as they ensnared my lower lip between them, but the energy that exploded was unbreakable. Instantly, all the complications and the hurt and the fears drowned, and the only thing that surfaced was his body touching mine.

My breath quivered as I opened my mouth, and when Hunter slid his tongue inside, a hot flash of energy shot between my thighs. Making my sex throb for him.

I snaked my fingers through his hair, tilting my head to the left as the waves of Lake Michigan lapped against the rocky shore below. While up here, our breaths became louder and more urgent, the heat in my belly intensifying.

Hunter’s hand pulled my lower back, my breasts pressing against his chest, making me whimper when his growing erection pulsed against me. His lips curled into a smile at the sound, and his hand slid from behind my back to my stomach, inching up slowly, making me wait for it until his large palm cupped my breast.

A fire engulfed between my thighs, demanding urgent relief, and I slid my hand over his suit pants and rubbed the bulge waiting for me.

I loved that I could make him growl with one touch. I loved that I could make him grip me harder, like an uncaged beast, my nipples hardening at the touch.

“Tell me what you want,” he whispered over my lips.

“I want you inside of me.”
