Bloodied and beaten, vulnerable, every wound on display. The belt tourniquet seemed a desperate attempt to hold myself together, blood saturating my leg. All while I stood here in a bra, stripped down physically and emotionally.

“The fuck?” he asked.

“I need your help,” I whispered, glancing at the bedroom door.

“Why are you whispering?” Grayson growled.

“Because if anyone else sees what I’m about to show you, Hunter will spend the rest of his life in prison.”

Grayson’s eyebrows pinched together, and he stilled, looking from my left eye to my right. After several tense moments, he nodded his compliance.

“Follow me.”

“What in the actual fuck?” Grayson said as we made our way down the stone tunnel carved beneath the earth. “Was this place here when I was a kid?”

“This way.”

Grunting from the immense effort of walking, I grabbed the wall again, my thigh shooting pains down my toes and up my spine.

But suddenly, Grayson’s arm came around my back and under my armpit. Supporting my weight. The pungent mix of damp earth and the metallic tang of blood assaulted my senses, a reminder of the grimness awaiting us, while ice-cold air danced across my bare stomach, making my skin erupt into goose bumps.

Every shiver that ran through me was countered by the warmth emanating from Grayson’s sturdy form against my side.

When we entered the weapons room, Grayson only afforded himself a second to look around in shock before focusing on the two bodies lying on the floor.

Both were eerily still, the life seemingly drained from them.

“Hunter!” I pulled away from Grayson and dropped to my knees, pressing my fingers against his artery.

“He’s still alive,” I whimpered.

“My uncle is dead,” Grayson said, pulling his fingers off his neck. His voice was unsettlingly calm, lacking the grief or shock I’d expected.

“We need to get Hunter to the hospital,” I said.

“You need a hospital, too.” Grayson nodded at the pool of blood on my thigh.

“We need to move this crime scene outside.”

Grayson stood up from his squatted position and looked down at me. Same broad shoulders as his brother, same intimidating voice as he demanded, “The hell are you talking about?”

“Nobody can find this place. Hunter killed your uncle in self-defense, but if the police find this place, Hunter will go away to prison for life.”

Grayson glanced around the room again, his gaze pausing on the weapons arranged on the far wall. His chest inflated before he looked back down at his unconscious brother.

Then returned his stare to me. “Tell me what you need.”

We got seriously lucky. The security guards were not searching the north end of the property anymore, so Grayson was able to drag both Alexander and Hunter into the woods behind the hidden garage.

He discarded the weapons carefully, ensuring they left no telltale signs behind while I spread blood around the crime scene.
