Before they made their way to the car, Lex pulled Amy into his arms for a long passionate kiss. Heat shot through from her head to her toes and then straight into her heart.
There was no way that she was going to wait to make love with Lex. The only time they would have together for a while would be these next two weeks, so they needed to make the most of them.
When Lex broke away, he looked as dazed as she was.
“Geez, Amy. This waiting is sure going to be difficult if you’re going to keep responding like that,” Lex muttered.
She laughed softly as they headed to the car. “I was just thinking the same thing myself.”
Chapter Thirty-Four
As soon as they arrived home, they went their separate ways to get ready for dinner. Mom had unwrapped her huge poinsettia and left it in the middle of the dining table in the solarium, Lex noticed, making his way into the kitchen to grab a few Christmas cookies. Obviously, Mom had recently been doing a lot of baking.
He heard some laughter coming from upstairs, and made his way up the staircase, sneaking up on Matt, who was joking around with Dad and Caleb.
“Ho, ho, ho,”Lex growled into Matt’s ear.
Matt jumped, spinning around as he grinned. “There you are.We keep missing each other. I didn’t even realize you were home this morning.” Matt looked him up and down. “You look great, Lex.”
He wished he could say the same about Matt. But thinking about the troublemaking confident kid he’d once been, Lex became a little worried. Matt looked exhausted.
“I can’t get over how tall you are,” Lex muttered, wrapping an arm around him, and slapping him hard on the back. “It’s really good to see you.”
“What have you been doing with yourself today?” Caleb asked.
“I dropped Amy off at school and then did a little Christmas shopping.” Lex winked at Dad. “I’ve got a few things being delivered tomorrow morning to help decorate the house.”
“You shouldn’t have, Lex,” Dad replied.
“It’s the least I can do. I’ve been saving up.” Lex grinned. “Wait until you see what I got.”
“I can hardly wait,” Dad said dryly, obviously thinking about how much more they would have to put away.
“Don’t worry. I know what you’re thinking, and I’ve got it covered. I’ll help take everything down before I leave town.”
“We all will,” Caleb reassured Dad.
“In that case, I really can’t wait to see what you got,” Dad said, smiling. “Arielle and Ash probably don’t remember when we used to go all out.”
Everyone laughed.
Dad sighed, heading towards the master bedroom. “I guess I’d better get ready. It’s been over an hour since she came upstairs, so hopefully your mother has finally finished picking out what she wants to wear by now.”
Everyone laughed again.
“I’ll see you in a little while. I hope I have something clean to wear,” Caleb admitted, grimacing.
“Just like the good old days,” Lex said, giving him a soft punch on the shoulder before Caleb walked away, grinning.
“I guess I’d better get moving too,” Matt said. “You’ll have to come and see my rooms upstairs. Mom and Dad surprised me when they were remodeling. Until then, I was still living in the room beside yours. It was kind of lonely on that end of the house without you around.”
“You could have stayed in my room, you know. I wouldn’t have minded,” Lex said.
“I wasn’t going to run Amy out of there,” Matt said, smiling wryly. “After you left, she kind of made it her second home. Speaking of which…”
“Yes, you’ve heard right. There’s never been anyone like her.”
“I’m glad to hear it. I’ve missed what it was like when the two of you were always around. Everyone was always laughing.”
