“Think he’s seen the video yet?”
Her eyes lock to mine, fury rolling behind the blue.
Smile widening, I shake my head.
“I’m not sure he’ll give a damn aboutmyreason after hearing you break off your engagement on video while another man’s dick is in your ass.”
“Fuck you.”
“No, thanks,” I groan. “Been there, done that, and now we’re even.”
Another bark of pissed off laughter shakes her shoulders.
Finding her keys, she pulls them from her purse and cocks a hip.
“We’re nowhere near even. But I guess you’ll have to learn the hard way.”
I can’t be too sure, but that sounded like a threat. It’s a pity for Hillary that I can’t find a fuck to give about it.
“The door is behind you,” I remind her. “Or were you planning on hanging out a bit longer to see if it’s possible to bore me to death? You almost succeeded in doing just that last night in bed.”
Another curl of my lips and she lets out a high-pitched shriek that could wake the dead.
“Asshole,” she screams before yanking my door open to stomp through the house.
My windows rattle a minute later as she slams the front door, a warm blanket of satisfaction wrapping around me to know that the debt—with her at least—has been paid.
I would sit back for a few minutes to soak in the satisfaction of a job well done, but unfortunately, I have to face a new shitshow after Tanner’s phone call.
Taking another glance at my clock, I shove my body out of bed and cuss beneath my breath.
Wondering what happened with Luca and Priest, I grab my phone from the side table and call Tanner. He doesn’t answer, which only pisses me off. Giving up on that, I get a quick shower and get dressed.
My steps are heavy as I grab my keys and leave my house en route to the shop.
A half hour later and I’m standing outside the shop with Priest standing next to me, both of us staring at a hunk of metal that had once been a piece of shit car.
“Man, listen. You told me the car needed to be out of commission. If you ask me, it’s not going anywhere from here.”
I laugh at the understatement.
“My fault for not being clearer about what I meant.”
We both turn to look at each other, and Priest flashes me a shit-eating grin.
“You should have seen Tanner’s face. I think he was about two seconds away from taking a swing at me.”
Shrugging a shoulder, I purse my lips.
“We did our job. Now the question is how we’ll get this pile of junk inside a bay.”
“I’ve got that covered. Give me a second.”
Priest walks off to turn a corner around the building just as an engine roars at my back. I twist in place to see Damon’s truck pull into the lot.
He stops with a slight skid of his tires only inches from me, and I raise a finger to flip him off in response.
The son of a bitch kicked up a small cloud of dust, his low laughter floating across the parking lot as he climbs out of the truck to walk up to me.
