“A family,” Jasmine repeated.

Lifting both his girls, Adam set them in his lap. Fauna not wanting to be left out bounded over and clambered onto Claire’s lap making his daughter giggle.

“We’re a family now, the three of us,” Adam said.

“Four, Daddy,” Claire corrected. “Don’t forget Fauna.”

Adam laughed. “Sure, the four of us, one day we might add a baby to our family.”

“A sister,” Claire piped up.

“Or a brother,” he reminded her, not wanting her to get hung up on a sister since there was just as much chance it might be a brother instead. “For now, though, I think our family is pretty perfect.”

“Perfect,” Jasmine echoed.

“Perfectly perfect,” Claire added, not to be left out.

With the crackling fire, the twinkling lights, the discarded wrapping paper and gift boxes, the Christmas tree, and decorations everywhere, and his two girls on his lap, Adam couldn’t think of anything that would make this moment more perfect.

Best Christmas ever by far.
