Penny
Do you have five minutes now for a coffee break? I forgot to tell you the other news. I’ll buy you a hot chocolate.
Yep. Today’s gossip, and hot chocolate.
I hope it isn’t more news about Jed seeing me on the app, and more than anything I hope Jed isn’t so friendly with Aiden that he’ll pass on what he’s seen before I get to tell him.
I glance into the office, still not seeing anything because of the privacy blinds against the window.
I’m in the staff room.
I head away from my desk and to where she is. Wondering what she has to tell me.
“Oh, shit?” I mutter. The moment I realize he found out about the website before that night, that’s why he is pissed off with me.
He knows you’re a liar. He was testing you with the soup. With being nice to you.
As I push on the door, it creaks open, revealing Penny on the other side. She hands me a steaming mug of rich, velvety hot chocolate.
“Thank you.”
She smiles. “One day you’ll have a grown up drink.”
I hold my hand over my heart. “Brutal.”
She smiles as she whispers, “So you’ve met the new boss?”
“Sorry?” I say after taking a sip of my drink. “Whose new boss?”
“Yours... mine... The man who’s in the office with Jed. The announcement happened at the Christmas party.”
“Aiden?”
She chuckles. “First-name terms already. Mr. Ramsay. Actually, it’s the three Ramsay brothers, Aiden, Ryder and Eric. We’ve yet to meet the other two, but you must have left an impression because Aiden asked me where you were at the Christmas party.”
Aiden isn’t an agent, he’s my boss.
Then I realize what she said and blurt, “He asked about me at the Christmas party?”
She bites her lip and I wait for her to tell me more. “Him and Jed saw you on the OmegaFans app.”
“I want to keep you.”His words flash back, and my pathetic reply,“Then keep me.”
He can’t because he doesn’t want someone like me.
As I slide into my seat, my eyes remain wide, but I resist the urge to probe her any further.
Aiden knows about me?
He wants me to come clean tonight.
My head falls back as stinging tears roll down my cheeks.
He doesn’t want me because he knows what I do for a living and that’s the only reason he paid me.
Because he knew I could be bought.
