As she touches my forearm, I feel the softness of her hand against my skin. “He doesn’t know that I know. If you didn’t have your colored hair, I never would’ve guessed it was you he was looking at, but I noticed that and the OmegaFans logo.”

As Penny turns in the opposite direction of the foyer, I make my way towards the wide door to the larger office, where my desk is located just outside of Jed’s and Madeline’s rooms.

I drop my bags on the desk, and the smell of freshly brewed coffee and muffins fills the air. I hope someone else got Jed’s coffee. I still need to speak to him about what I need to do today.Get it over with, Holly.

Exhaling deeply, I stride to Jed’s office. As usual, his black out blinds are lowered.

My hand hesitates over the door, lingering momentarily before I tap twice and wait for his signal to enter. Wait for him to finish whatever he hides himself away to do each morning.

There’s no doubt in my mind that he takes pleasure in stroking his cock when he thinks he’s hidden behind his blinds. But that thought makes me swallow hard, wondering if it’s me he’s been looking at.

Is that it?

Polly thinks Jed has some secret fetish. From his constant taunting me at work, to his persistent efforts to undermine me, and then his insistence on assigning me trivial tasks despite knowing my capabilities.

He is trying to wear me down?

But why?

“Come in,” he says, sounding slightly out of breath.

My stomach twists with unease as I take a deep breath and enter his office.

I’m instantly eased when I smell a tantalizing blend of orange, chocolate, and the delicate fragrance of cherry blossom. That’s when I see Aiden sitting opposite my boss.

With each step, I can feel the air becoming increasingly oppressive. Jed’s eyes are on me, but Aiden stays looking ahead.

I try to act like he’s just an agent and not my secret lover. Is he though?

Only for ten days, Holly.

My hand trembles as I cautiously enter the office, catching Aiden’s annoyed gaze.

“We don’t need your help. You can leave,” Aiden grunts.

“Oh,” I whimper, turning on my heels and heading to the door. “Okay.”

Jed reaches me at the door, his grip on my arm tightening as his thumb digs into my flesh. Fire burns from my wrist to my shoulder.

I’ve never felt his touch before, neither gentle nor harsh.

“Where the fuck were you?” he whisper-hisses so Aiden can’t hear him.

As blood thrashes in my ears, my gaze remains fixed on his intense eyes. Penny warned me, but he’s obviously more furious about the Christmas party than he initially let on, or... there’s another reason.

“Take your fucking hand off her,” Aiden growls.

Jed’s eyes meet Aiden’s with an intensity that I can’t ignore. I forcefully pull my arm from his grasp.

“We need to have a chat later, Miss Carter.” Jed’s words linger in the air as he draws them out slowly. “I don’t like liars... or omegas who think they are better than alphas.”

As I turn at the door, my heart pounds relentlessly in my chest. One smile and Aiden effortlessly unravels the tight twine that Jed had somehow managed to twist.

Aiden and Jed are still locked in a heated conversation thirty minutes later. I glance at the top file on my desk, the details of the new team signing, Colton Sinclair.

Opening the file, I carefully examine the contract, scanning each page to ensure that all signatures are present, affirming Colton’s status as a player for the Bears and his eligibility to join tomorrow evening’s game.

When a message flashes on my cell, I pick it up and read it.
