“No. I’m not hungry and I need to sleep.” Her tone conveys a sense of defeat.

I sigh. Not wanting to push her. “Then we’ll talk tomorrow.”

Chapter 27

Holly

“Areyoucominghomefor good?”

I turn to my mother and shrug.

Once again, I’m traveling on a baggage cart to a private plane. This time I’m with my parents.

My father, as usual, is quiet, but my mom is asking constant questions.

“Is that a yes or a no?” she asks.

“I don’t know.” I don’t.

There was something about living in New York that I loved. It wasn’t only because I found and lost an alpha I thought was mine. But also because of the friends I made.

After my argument with Aiden last night, I tried to sleep, but the weight of everything left me restless.

So I did what any good omega should do. I called my parents and told them it was time for me to go home. Just saying it caused a pang of homesickness in my chest.

My parents were so worried they cut short their vacation.

Mom side glances at me. “You didn’t find what you were looking for?”

I was on the verge of giving up on finding an alpha who loved my scent. I was going to give up on finding a scent match. His was enough. But he not only didn’t love my scent—he never loved me.

And worse, he’s been in some state of love-hate situation with my sister for four years.

He’s an asshole.

Dad twists from the front seat of the cart, just as it pulls up to the plane. “Of course she didn’t. She wouldn’t be coming home and looking like she did when Ivy died, if she found what she was looking for.”

I lower my face to the floor of the cart, looking at my shoes as the door opens and whisper, “I found him in New York, but he never wanted me.”

“What?” my usually quiet father hollers. “He refused my daughter. Who the hell is he?”

A man who played with my heart.

This was a game for him. With vengeance in mind, he orchestrated a game to get back at my sister.

It all makes sense. He made me sign an NDA for a reason. He was bothered about people finding out at work because he knew what he was going to do to me.

He planned to claim me.

He planned on breaking my heart.

He did... I gave him everything.

He gave me nothing but money in return.

What I don’t know is why he’s determined to prolong this and make me believe we are more.

He still wants to claim you and let you rot in misery.
