“You need to take more. Being around all these alphas must have diluted their strength or something else?”

She purses her lips as she wipes away the sweat sitting on her hairline. “I’ve successfully lived in New York for three years, Aiden. And there are more alphas in New York than any other city in the world. My body doesn’t need extra suppressants. I’ve gotten used to living among alphas. This is a ‘you’ thing. I’m emitting as normal and I’m wearing a neutralizing perfume, which is probably what you’re smelling.”

“When was the last time you had a heat?” I ask, watching the light green of her eyes turn into a deep emerald hue.

“I’m on heat suppressants. I’ve never had a heat. Only the mini one when my designation came through.”

“And what did you do that time?”

“I went from having cold showers to wrapping myself in blankets. This is different. I’m just upset, and it’s making me feel fuzzy.”

“Hazy... Your body is going into heat. Your perfume...”

She growls. “My perfume is normal.” I pull away from my parents’ home. “You’re being possessive.”

“I’m protective, Holly, not possessive. And we’re only leaving for an hour, so you can take your suppressant and have a shower. Then we’ll return.”

“Whatever you say.”

I drive the country roads back to the hotel.

She extends her arm and activates the air conditioning. “It’s hot in here.”

I focus intently ahead, squinting as I gaze at the road. But with every breath I take, I notice my chin subtly ascending, embracing the enticing aroma that saturates every nook of the car. Her perfume is wrapping around me like a seductive aphrodisiac, and my cock is responding as it compresses against my pants.

I press my foot on the gas, feeling the engine roar as the car speeds up, desperate to reach the hotel sooner.

After I’ve pulled up in the hotel grounds, I gently take hold of Holly’s hand, bringing her palm to my lips. I catch a blast of the fragrance she applies to her wrists. The perfume she thinks conceals her distinctive omega scent. I know she underestimates my awareness of her actions.

“I need some alone time,” she says as we enter the elevator and the car rises.

“Why?”

When the doors open on our floor, a sudden gust of frigid air invades the elevator, eliciting a shiver from her. Despite this, her face is glistening with sweat.

“I can help you,” I say, taking her hand and rushing to the hotel room.

“I’m fine. I just need to take a shower and cool down.”

“You’re going into your heat,” I say, scanning my card and letting her into the room.

“I’m on heat suppressants. I’m getting sick.”

“Baby girl.” My voice ascends, resonating throughout the room before a deep growl slips from my mouth.

Her eyes widen as she strides away, quickly opening the door to her bedroom in the suite and shutting it behind her.

I could be that alpha.

The one who storms into the bedroom and takes her without her consent.

I’ll never be that man.

I’ll be patient and wait for the perfect opportunity. It’ll only be a matter of time before she realizes that she can’t go on without me.

While I wait, I send a message to my mother that we won’t make it back for supper.

Half an hour later, I’m still pacing the floor when I hear a distinct moan coming from the room.
