She chuckles. “You have pink hair.”
“It’s rose gold. It doesn’t change my personality.”
“You’re brave. Omegas don’t normally talk to alphas the way you do.”
I like that she thinks I’m brave, because I never used to be. “Okay, you got me.”
She laughs. “I like that about you. But be careful with Aiden. He doesn’t trust easily. One broken heart and he’s now guarded.”
“Oh, okay.”
“Do you want a pack?” she asks. I must look confused because she continues. “His last omega did.”
“When did that happen?” My curiosity piques, and I can’t help but ask.
“Too long ago.”
“When?” I push.
“They were college sweethearts. The full deal. He worshiped her and thought they’d be together for life. And then…”
“She died?” I whisper.
His sister chuckles. “No, this is what I’m telling you. Don’t let Aiden know I told you this, but he introduced his omega to his friend and, within a couple of weeks, she ended their relationship.”
“That must have been years ago…” I glance over to where Aiden is talking to his brother as he walks into the room.
“Yeah. Twelve… thirteen, maybe. At least he found you,” she says. “But he doesn’t believe in scent matching.”
“He doesn’t?” I shrug my shoulders.
She shakes her head. “Daria was a scholarship girl. Whereas Aiden comes from a rich family. She fooled him into thinking she was his scent match. She wanted him to claim her.”
My mouth opens as I listen.
“He loved her, but he couldn’t claim her. He admitted a few years ago that something felt off. He never loved her scent. Only three years ago did he realize her leaving was for the best.”
“Why did he admit it?”
She arches an elegant eyebrow. “He met someone online. She sent him her tee-shirt, he sent her his.”
He has a scent match. I feel my heart breaking all over again.
“What happened?”
“I don’t know. It just fizzled out. He told me he was staying single forever.” She leans into my ear and whispers, “But now he has you. I can see he’s found his inner alpha again. He’s happy again.”
I chuckle. “Don’t get your hopes up.”
“Sorry?”
I want to keep lying to her but can’t. “I’m here so you don’t pester him and now I realize why.”
She stares at me, waiting for my response.
“The second girl was probably a lie, and it’s because he wants to keep you all happy. He wants to live a single life because he has never gotten over his first love.”
“But he never looked at her like he looks at you.”
