While I’m still pondering his words, he swiftly rotates me until I’m facing his expansive chest. While maintaining his grip on my chin, he raises my face to meet his piercing gaze.
“I don’t know what happened to you, but you will feel cherished.” Our eyes clash as I take in his words. “At least for today and the next eight days.”
And there I was imagining he wished for more than the arrangement we have.
“Tomorrow we’re going shopping. You need a nice outfit for Christmas with my family. I want them to believe you’re my girlfriend.”
Clearly, my attire fails to meet his or his family’s standards.
“How touchy do you expect me to be with you while we are there?” I ask, because he never explained why I’m going or how I’m to act.
“Just make it look real.”
“Why?”
His chest lifts as he sighs. “That’s none of your business.”
“Yes, boss.” I silently sigh.
Although Christmas Day is not typically a festive occasion for me, Aiden doesn’t need to know. I’ll put on a smiling face and go along with the occasion.
I don’t have a choice if I want his money.
Chapter 12
Holly
Earlythenextday, impeccably dressed staff direct us through the airport and toward a private room. Inside, there is a cozy seating arrangement comprising leather chairs and tables adorned with marble tops.
Outside, a fleet of small planes line up. Bags are being loaded, getting ready for take-off to their destinations.
“Your aircraft will be ready to board in ten minutes,” a lady dressed in a navy and white uniform with a red tie around her neck tells Aiden. She openly displays her interest in him, allowing her gaze to wander across his physique.
I should glare at her, instead I roll my eyes to the ceiling and ask, “Where are we going?”
When Aiden informed me about our plans to shop, I expected to visit a department store in New York City, not embarking on a private jet journey.
“Atlanta. You’ll like the boutiques there.”
“Are they any better than New York?”
“Yes,” he responds abruptly, his tone shifting to a commanding one.
He’s such a grumpy bastard. I can’t comprehend how deluded I was to think he’d be my soulmate?
I indulge in a glass of the complimentary Champagne provided on the silver platter that glides past my face. Consuming it in one swift motion. Aiden’s unwavering gaze is upon me as I grasp yet another glass. I shrug as I rise and make my way away from him.
It’s easier than arguing.
I survey the room, marveling at the intricate floral displays gracing the tables at the room’s edges. While one server is providing champagne, another is showcasing a mouthwatering assortment of food on a silver platter as he moves around.
Soft tunes flow through the ceiling speakers, enticing me with an urge to sway to the rhythm.
“It’s time to leave,” Aiden announces, holding my elbow as he takes the glass from my hand, placing it on a table as we pass.
After traveling the quick journey from the waiting area to the tarmac where the plane sits, we disembark from the luggage cart.
I climb the steps, still feeling pissed off. He’s so worried someone in New York will see us, that we’re traveling to Atlanta for the day.
