“Andrew, we have limited choices if we want to get this investigation to move faster. Either I share Amber with the inner circle, which I am definitely not doing, or we put on a sex show. For me, it’s not such a big deal. I’ve been…around and done things. I don’t have a problem being watched. I spent some time in Amsterdam around the sex shows in the Red-Light District, so I’ve seen how it’s done. It’s doable.”

Mason looked at me apologetically. He hadn’t brought any of this up last night when we were talking.

“Doable?” Andrew sputtered.

“Yeah. You already know I experimented with a bit of everything when I was younger.”

Andrew shook his head. “But doing it with Amber? Bringing her into it? That’s just madness. We’re talking about an innocent party being brought into something that we would never normally ask someone to do. We can’t, in good conscience, expect Amber to take part in this.”

Mason ran his fingers through his hair and sat down. “You’re right. Absolutely one hundred percent right on this. And normally I would never ask Amber to do such a thing. But I can’t help but think we don’t have much time left before someone else falls victim to this sick fuck. I’m worried that the professor is getting close to disappearing his next victim because of his pattern of killing one each year. And we now have reason to suspect that he’s responsible for deaths going back 20 years. It’s been one year since Adam’s ‘death’ and the last woman disappeared. Based on his pattern, he’s going to move soon. So the stakes are high now. We’ve been given a choice, of which only one is actually doable. It’s an opportunity for me to get into the inner circle quickly and actually find out what’s been happening.

Andrew considered this. “Yes, I know all this.”

“So, I feel like I don’t have the luxury of waiting to get inducted into the inner circle on their schedule. I need to make this happen as fast as possible so that I can find out more about what is going on and how they run things. I need to be privy to their plans and then, hopefully, I can prevent another victim from being murdered. Besides, I’m worried that the professor has his sights set on Amber and that she could be his next victim. We need to consider that her safety may warrant having her enter WITSEC like Adam.”

I was just silently taking all this in, both fascinated and horrified. It was titillating to hear Mason talking about all the sex stuff and horrifying to hear about the gruesome murders they suspected the professor of. He was a serial killer working under the guise of being a leader of a secret society that attracts young people from the most powerful families to join. The whole concept was awful, evil.

But when Mason mentioned me going into Witness Protection, I snapped out of my fascinated reverie.

“What the fuck!? I’m not going into Witness Protection. No, Mason. Absolutely not. No way, no how, not ever!”

Mason turned to me and held out his hands. “Sweetheart, it’s the safest place for you to be. It’s the only way I can think of to keep you safe.”

“Fuck safety!” I cried vehemently. “Look, I’m scared to death here, but I’m also furious. I want to hunt down this sicko and make him pay for what he’s done. I’m sick of being a victim. I was never a meek person before this last year and I’m done with being weak. I want to do it for Adam and all the victims who died and for you, Mason.”

“But you’ll have to have sex in front of a group of people you don’t know.”

“Okay, I’m not going to lie. The thought of it terrifies me, but if the alternative is having another person die because we waited too long to make a push to get you inside, then I think I can push through this and do what you tell me, as long as you’re there with me. I can do it.”

“Now I’m not so sure. Andrew’s right. We should never ask this of anyone. I must’ve been crazy to even consider asking you to consider this. I think I was leading with a part of my brain that I’m ashamed to say wants to win this battle against the professor at any cost. And that’s wrong.”

“Mason, don’t you know I realize these are life and death circumstances we are facing and that you would never normally ask me to do something like this. I get the urgency to make things move faster. I want that to happen, too. We have to get you into the inner circle so that you can stop the professor from killing anyone else. So, as crazy as it sounds, I’m all in. Let them watch us. Let them have their fun. In the end we’ll win because you’ll be in the inner circle and you’ll be able to find out the professor’s plans.”

“Are you sure? I mean, stuff like this doesn’t bother me, but like Andrew said, we’re crossing a huge line here asking you to be involved with this.”

I nodded my head and put my hand on his arm. “When I say I’m all in, that means only if you’re with me the entire time. It’s the only way I’d come out of this experience without feeling used and violated.”

Mason looked at me, his eyes focused on mine almost painful intensity. He was silent for a while. “Okay. If you’re sure, then let’s do it. I’ll make sure you’re cared for the whole entire time, so don’t worry about that. Plus we’ll be in a private room with one entrance at The Corinthian that’s set up for this kind of thing. It’ll have a two-way mirror on one wall and we won’t be able to see who is watching us. They won’t be able to get into the room and no one but me will be able to touch you.”

“I know you’ll look out for me. I trust you.”

Andrew, who had been watching us in fascination up until this point, turned and put his hand on my knee. “You’re being very brave agreeing to this, Amber. You don’t have to do it. You’re taking a huge risk.”

“No. I want to.”

“Okay. Well, I can’t stop you two from doing it. But you know that word of this is going to get back to the boss.”

Mason visibly winced. I held his hand to reassure him.

“I don’t envy you when you have to report this to the big boss. But I wish I could be a fly on the wall when you have the inevitable conversation that will come from it,” Andrew joked.

“Thanks for your support,” Mason chuckled.

“You’re welcome. Any time.” Andrew grinned.

I rolled my eyes. These two guys…

How hard could this be? I would be with Mason the whole way through. I wouldn’t be able to see who was watching us, so it would feel like we were on our own. I let out a shuddering sigh. I could definitely do this. For Adam, for the victims, for Mason.
