Vito is still frozen.

“Are you moving or what?”

“What makes you think he’s going to his boss?”

“Would you leave a job if I didn’t ask you to?”

“Nope.”

“There’s your answer. I think Joe Lizard himself has Tina. He does because he wants me, and she is important to his ploy. He probably needs that guy to handle her while he handles me, and that’s why he’s summoned him. Let’s hope I’m right,” I say, swiveling toward the door.”

He follows me.

“What’s the plan?” he asks behind me.

“I don’t have a plan. I’ll get Tina and then kill him.”

“Where the fuck is he going?”Gianni mutters, checking the time on his watch.

We’ve been driving for a couple of hours, and the man is a few miles ahead of us.

He has one of our men on his tail, but things get dicey as we move away from LA. And I begin to think this is another trap.

It can’t be. I doubt he knows he’s been followed.

We drive past Palm Springs and Cathedral City before reaching Rancho Mirage, and there are signs the man has finally reached his destination.

We stay behind so he doesn’t spot us, and soon after, our man communicates the address.

“This is it,” I say.

We are eight men in two cars parked parallel in a park.

I give them instructions before we slowly roll our cars toward the address. Gianni, Vito, another man, and I are headed to the house where the man had vanished behind a solid door.

The other car does the same thing, only they go first and check the perimeter.

We arrive at the place fifteen minutes later.

It’s almost three o’clock in the morning.

We keep our lights off and pull to stop a block away from the house. It’s an open space with a few properties, and now I know why he’s chosen this house.

It’s easy to spot a suspicious vehicle.

The windows are dark.

Maybe the blinds are shut, or thick curtains obscure the view.

Whatever it is, if I look closely, I can see a trickle of light, so something’s up inside the house.

Two cars are parked in front of the entrance.

One belongs to the man we followed, and the other one must belong to whoever occupies the house right now.
