“Thanks. I couldn’t help but notice you came alone. Why?”

He sighs. “I’m new here. I was supposed to come with my friend, but he turned me down…so here I am.”

“And your girlfriend or wife?” The words slip past my lips before I can think them through. I cringe as soon as they leave my mouth.Get a hold of yourself, Lily.

He chuckles at that and it makes my insides melt. “No wife. No girlfriend. I’m as single as the bottle of wine on your side of the table.”

A good sense of humor too. He really can’t do any wrong, can he?

“Nice one. Even though I find that hard to believe.”

He cocks a brow. “Why?”

“I don’t know. Men like you always have the pick of the ladies. You could have anyone.”

“Can I have you then?” He says with a sly grin.

He leans forward and his eyes bore into mine. My heart flutters. This has to be one of the hottest men I’ve ever seen. He’s got this air of danger around him, a dangerous energy that I can’t help but fall under. The look in his eyes sends electricity shooting through me. I feel my cheeks heat up and I have to fight the urge to fidget beneath his gaze. The smile that crosses his face is blinding, causing every nerve ending in my body to tingle with anticipation. I bite my lip and stare at my drink, trying not to show how much his presence affects me.

“Thanks but no thanks. Men like you spell trouble. And well, I think I've had enough trouble for one day.”

“Great thing it’s almost midnight.” He says with a coy grin.

I find myself smiling in response to his joke. What a charmer he is. I shake my head and sip my wine, trying to steady myself. My pulse is racing. How does he do that to me?Again, Lily! Get a hold of yourself. You’re going at it again. And you know how it ends.I remind myself again and again, but it’s not working. He leans back in his seat and stretches his long legs out under the table. The movement causes his shirt to ride up and reveal some skin on his lower abdomen. The thought of running my hands over the ridges of his abdomen brings another blush to my cheeks and an ache to my groin. A groan escapes my throat.Stop it Lily! Stop looking at him.

“So. What about you? Do you have a…” he trails off, his deep baritone drawing me out of my thoughts.

“A what?”

“A boyfriend or something.”

“Nope. We’re in the same boat.”

“It’s a boring boat.”

“It’s a safe boat,” I retort.

“Someone’s gotten her heart broken.”

“Understatement of the century. My heart has been clawed out of my chest.”

“You seem to be breathing fine regardless.”

He chuckles again and I join him, enjoying the sound of his low rumble.

“What are you out here for though?” I ask him, breaking the silence that had fallen upon us.

He leans forward, elbows resting on the table and rests his chin in the palms of his hands, giving me a better view of his gorgeous features. “Should I be honest?”

“Of course.”

“It’s been a couple of lonely nights since I’ve been back in town from a work trip. I was hoping to get a few bottles and hopefully, a fine ass lady to spend the night with.” His lips curve into a sexy smirk and his fingers drum against the table top. He leans toward me, his lips mere inches away from mine. “And you my dear happen to be the finest in the room.”

If he wasn’t so cute, I would smack him right in the face for being so outright flirty with me. Unfortunately, he is and unfortunately it works. I laugh and turn my face to the other side, hiding my flushed cheeks from view.

“Sorry for being so blunt. I guess it’s the alcohol.” His hand covers mine, squeezing gently, the pad of his thumb lightly rubbing over the top of my hand.

“It’s fine. I wouldn’t mind that either. It’s been a minute since I had some good sex.” I glance back at him, noticing he’s blushing at the mention of sex. I want to touch him, to rub my palm against his cheek, and to explore all those lovely curves of his face.
