“C‘mon. You’re not scared, are you?”
“No. I’m not. But—”
The door suddenly slams open right on time.Good Lord, I’ve never been happier to see Lily. The smile on her face morphs into a frown, and then a glare, as she takes in the scene in front of her. She looks pissed, her face redder than ever and fists clenched so tight on the file she’s holding.
“Hi Lily, great to see you!” I say, forcing a fake smile on my lips, not knowing how to deal with the situation at hand.
“I think I should leave. Sorry for intruding.”
Our eyes connect, urgency flashing in my gaze. Without words, I shake my head slightly and my hands reach out, a silent beg for her to stay while I pray that she gets the message.
She looks at me like I’ve gone insane, but thankfully she does. She quickly feigns a smile as she walks into my office, much to Layla’s disdain. Her glare could drop Lily six feet under in seconds if looks could kill.
“Sorry to interrupt sir but you’re running late for your meeting with Mr. Davies. And you know how much he hates having to wait.”
“Yeah, yeah. I’ll be there right quick.” I reply, turning around in my swivel chair, facing Layla and giving her a reassuring nod. She just huffs in response and rolls her eyes. The look she gives Lily screams‘way to go, bitch’written all over it before she turns her attention back to me, a fake smile plastered across her lips. I give her a wink and she rolls her eyes again, clearly annoyed by everything.
She makes one final glance at Lily before picking up her bag from off the table. This time she knocks the chair over as she stands. “Bye.” She mutters sarcastically and then leaves, slamming the door behind her.

Lily sighs and crosses her arms, glaring daggers into my very soul. I clear my throat awkwardly as I stand up and close the distance between us, taking the folder from her hands and placing it on my desk. “Thanks for saving me.” I say, a small smile on my face as she rolls her eyes at me. She shakes her head slightly, turning to look out the window behind me but I turn her back to me before she can move away, holding both of her shoulders. Damn, she looks beautiful, even when she's mad.
“Who was that?” She asks, staring up at me, green eyes wide with curiosity and jealousy. I take in every inch of her beauty. My chest aches with emotion, wanting her. I pull her closer to me, feeling her heartbeat against my chest, but she pulls away. “Don’t try to avoid the question?” She asks, biting down on her lower lip, a tiny crease appearing between her eyebrows.
I smile at how pretty she looks, lips pouted, brows furrowed, eyes narrowed at me in annoyance.
“Were you jealous?” I ask her, fighting the urge to chuckle at her expression.
“Don’t be ridiculous.” Lily says, looking away from me and rolling her eyes again. I bite back a laugh but don't let go of her until after she shoves me away. “I’m not. I couldn't care less what you do with other women. That's your problem, not mine.”
That hurt. But I understand. She’s angry. Of course, she’s angry and she’s well within her rights to be. I pull her closer to me, kissing her temple as she relaxes against me. “I’m sorry.” I whisper into her ear, nuzzling the side of her neck with my nose. “She’s just a client. We may or may not have had a thing or two in the past, and I guess she wanted to reignite old flames.”
“And you allowed her?”
“I didn’t. I swear I didn’t. I had the door open just about a minute before you showed up.”
“But it was very much closed when I showed up, and when I opened it, she was dangerously close to you. I can bet if I hadn’t walked in when I did, you would have kissed her and god knows what would have happened after that.” She says with a scowl.
“Lily.” I say softly, running my fingers through her soft hair. “Nothing would have happened. I cross my heart and swear on my father’s grave.” I tell her, pulling her tighter into my embrace. I kiss her forehead and nuzzle her cheek. “Nothing would have happened, alright? I wouldn’t do anything to hurt you. I swear it.”
She flinches but she doesn’t pull away. I feel the tension seep out of her body and I grin at how adorable she is.
“Sweet talker.” She murmurs.
“It’s the truth, Lily. I’ve got eyes for you only.”
“Right.” She drawls.
I tilt her head up so I can press my lips against hers properly. I pull back, smiling at the little blush rising on her cheeks and the way she closes her eyes and breathes deeply. “Now come here.” I say quietly, pushing her onto her feet. She wraps her arms around my neck as I pick her up easily, setting her on top of my desk.
“What are we doing?” She asks softly, looking down at me. Her eyes are filled with wonder and I can’t help but smile at her adorableness.
“You’re getting punished, while I’m gonna enjoy myself.” I say, running my hands down her sides and resting them on her hips. She tenses momentarily at my touch and then relaxes, leaning into me.
“What for?”
“For tampering with my artwork, and for not bursting into my office earlier.”
