“Anders, what are you doing? You're in the way.” Kane calls before his eyes fall on me, his habitual scowl taking over his expression.
I push past Knox and Anders, Kane the only large jackass now left in my way of exiting the building. He stands almost a foot above my five foot seven inch frame.
“Move.” I grit out. I wasn’t in the mood for his bullshit. I’d been given enough of a headache with the hyenas from before.
His eyes narrow, before something sparks in them.
“Ask nicely.”
“Kane.” Knox calls with a slight warning to his tone. But who needed his help?
I take a step closer to Kane, our toes touching as I glare up into his smug eyes.
“Did you not learn your lesson the last time we spoke?” My eyes narrow, as he opens his mouth, but I cut him off before he speaks.“You used to be such a stubborn grump when we were kids, all dark clouds and thorny stems, I used to evenlikethat about you.”
He flinches, his scowl slightly wavering as his eyes soften just a fraction.
“It's a pity that you grew into such a cold dick who only knows how to growl or bark.” I thrust my shoulder into his side, forcing him out of my way, and head out of the building, ignoring the voices behind me.
I’ll leave those emotions and memories where they belong. In the past.
I no longer know the boys before me. The childhood friends that I once had disappeared with my broken youth and memories a long time ago.
Sentiment wasn’t going to prolong my life or help me have it easier in the academy, it did nothing in my previous life. Nobody stepped up to help me, or to stop the torment or trauma that was inflicted on me. And nobody lent a hand when I was down.
No, they just kicked me further into the abyss that was my own desolation.
The past’s hope is burnt to its wick, and you could no longer make something from nothing.
I make my way toward the girls dormitory, and head to my room.
There is now only the future in my mind, and the past was just a painful memory of mistakes to learn from.
CHAPTER12
Another week passed by quickly. I had been training each night and had become much quicker and stronger, but I had realised that I had reached a bottleneck. Doing the same routine now, wasn’t yielding much results and I was limited on what I could do by myself.
In the facility I had been forced to fight, whether it was beasts or mutated creatures. It pushed me beyond my limits, survival being the only thing that mattered.
It wasn’t something I wanted to go through again, but I needed to dosomethingthat would push me further and help me grow more.
I had kept to my little clearing while training at night, but I could feel a shift in the air in the forest lately. Less animals were moving about, and there was an eerie feeling from the forest and near where I trained.
Maybe the beast that had killed that bear was coming closer to my little training spot.
And with most of the students having left earlier for their weekend, now was the perfect time to find out.
I stealthily make my way past the courtyard and into the forest. I head in the opposite direction of my little clearing and move deeper into it, the glow from the setting sun still lighting my way and giving the eerie forest a less horror movie vibe.
I watch my footing as I make my way over the uneven forest floor bed.
Twisted tree roots sprawl under my feet with thick pointed branches lacking foliage jut out from the surrounding trees. Nature itself telling trespassers to keep away.
The further I walk, the harder the terrain becomes, and with the light now quickly fading to night, a cold mist begins to seep in around the forest surrounding me.
An eerie silence fills the area, not even the wind willing to blow through here.
I catch my palm on a sharp piece of bark jutting from a tree to my right.
