Violet scowled. “Trey knows all about the vile things Carter did to me. Not to mention how he used to brag about the kills he’d made, how unstoppable he was.”

“Too much power for any man is dangerous,” Trey said quietly.

“You don’t even know them,” Nylah whispered. Had this man been seduced by Violet, or did he really believe he was doing the right thing here?

Trey looked at his watch. “Almost time.”

Bile crawled up Nylah’s throat. “Time for what?”

Violet smiled, pure evil on her face as her brows rose. “Boom.”

Nylah heart stopped. “There’s a bomb? Where?”

“You know where,” Violet said quietly.

Oh God…it had to be at Blue Halo. Almost the entire team was there right now.

A choking noise sounded from Eleanor.

Devastation and rage fought for dominance in Nylah’s chest. She ruthlessly pushed them down. “You’re going to pay for this. Both of you.”

“Wrong. We’re going to be fuckingheroes,” Violet hissed. “Now, unfortunately, both of you have to die. It was only gonna be Nylah, but she kind of put you in a shitty position by figuring it out while you were in the same room, El.”

Nylah’s entire body trembled.

She was a second away from diving behind the counter when Trey suddenly cursed and dove on top of Violet as a gunshot blasted from somewhere behind Nylah. She looked up to see Cody standing in the doorway to the back room, gun in hand, blood dripping from a cut on his head.

His gaze flew to Nylah. Trey took advantage of his second of distraction and jumped to his feet and lunged for Cody. The two men dropped to the floor, fighting over the pistol.

Violet rose to her knees and swung her weapon around, but before she could shoot, Nylah dove forward, grabbing her around the middle and sending them both crashing back to the floor. The gun went off, hitting the newly installed window, the shattering of glass loud in the otherwise quiet night.

There were loud sounds of fighting behind her from Cody and Trey, but she put her whole focus on Violet, grabbing her wrists and keeping the gun pointed over the woman’s head.

“You’re not gonna win,” Violet growled before lunging up to headbutt Nylah.

Pain ricocheted throughout her skull, her head flinging back. Violet took advantage, rolling them until she was on top. The woman was struggling to maneuver the gun when something smashed into her so hard that she flew sideways off Nylah and thudded to the floor.

Nylah gasped at the sight of Eleanor holding a chair. She dropped the heavy piece of furniture and grabbed the pistol, hands shaking as she aimed it at Violet’s chest.

“Are you okay?” Eleanor gasped.

“Yes,” Nylah said, voice trembling.

Then the ground beneath her shook violently, and a massiveboomovertook every other sound.

Nylah’s heart stopped.

No! She was too late!

Devastation tried to drown her, but she refused to let it take over. Liamwasn’tdead. No part of her felt capable of accepting that. He’d gotten out. He had to.

Eleanor nodded toward the door. “Go check on Blue Halo. We’ll check on Jason.”

Nylah’s gaze swung from Violet, who was groaning beside her, to Cody, who was straddling Trey on the floor, furiously punching the man over and over.

The door flew open and Courtney ran in, eyes wide. “What’s going on? I just heard—”

Nylah pushed to her feet. “It’s Violet…she’s Hawk. I need to check on Liam at Blue Halo. You go find Jason. He’s outside hurt somewhere!”
