Logan’s gaze ran across the parking lot before falling on Nylah. “You guys okay?”
“Yes.” Liam turned to Callum. “I have a plate for you to run.”
“Give it to me.”
He quickly rattled it off as Callum put it in his phone.
“What happened?” Officer Carlson asked as he came to a stop in front of them, his partner close behind.
“Three men broke into Nylah’s condo,” Liam said, his voice a hard thread of anger. “A couple more were waiting in cars in the lot.”
The officer turned his attention to Nylah. “Do you own this place?”
“No. My friend Paisley does. I’m just staying here while she’s away.”
Carlson nodded, the guy behind him taking notes as he said, “We’ll need her full name.”
“Paisley Archer.”
“Was anything stolen?”
She shook her head, wrapping her arms around her waist. “No. Not that I can see, but I only moved in a week ago. I don’t know everything that was here.”
At her slight tremble, Liam grazed his hand down her arm, trying to offer the comfort she needed.
“Where were you two when this happened?” the officer asked.
“Around the corner,” Liam said, nodding toward the side of the building.
Carlson looked that way, then back at Liam. “Did you hear them say anything?”
“They were angry that no one was here. Mentioned that the car was in the lot.”
“Werebothyour cars in the lot?”
He was clearly on the same thought train as Liam. “Yes.”
Nylah’s gaze shifted between them. “Wait…you think they were after Liam?”
“It would make sense,” Liam said quietly. “Someone failed to take us out at the party. So…target us while we’re in places with less security. I didn’t think I was being tailed, but I may have missed something.”
He’d been so damn distracted by Nylah, he’d barely checked for a tail. Damn, he wanted to kick his own ass.
“Did you get a look at them?” Carlson asked.
“I saw a glimpse of the guy behind the wheel of one car. Dark hair and eyes. That’s it. But I did get a license plate.” As he recited the plate numbers for a second time, the officer behind Carlson scribbled them down.
“We’ll look into it. We’ll also ask neighbors if they saw anything.” Carlson shifted his attention to Nylah. “Do you have somewhere to stay until the lock’s repaired?”
“With me.” Liam’s words were out before she had a chance to respond.
She shifted her attention to him. “What? No. I can’t do that.”
“You can and you will.”
He regretted his words immediately. They were too hard. Too demanding.
Her brows flickered. “Iwill?”
