Liam’s foottapped against the carpeted floor beneath the table. He’d been in this meeting for over a goddamn hour, and they’d discovered nothing.

“How cannoneof the shooters be connected to one another beyond the fact they have a military background?” Liam growled, his gaze moving around the photos scattered across the conference room table. Photos of the men who’d been shot and killed last night. They were from all over the US and every branch of the military. But none of them had served together. There was seemingly no damn connection.

Half the Cradle Mountain and half the Marble Falls teams were at the office, while Steve came through the speaker in the center of the table. Everyone wanted goddamn answers.

“I don’t know,” Steve said, sounding just as frustrated. “But we’ll find out. We’re going to interview every family and seize all technology. I’m putting my best tech guys on it.”

It didn’t feel like enough, but then, nothing would. Because while the FBI searched for information, there could be more of those assholes watching them, plotting another attack.

Fuck, they didn’t even have a motive.

As the team talked security measures, Liam’s gaze moved to his phone. Nylah still hadn’t called him back or returned his texts. Every minute that passed had the dread in his gut tangling tighter. Had she gotten home safely last night? Was she okay? How bad was the pain from her injuries?

He wanted to text again. Hell, he wanted to call until she damn well picked up.

Callum inched a piece of paper toward him on the table.

Liam frowned. “What’s that?”

“The information you asked me about this morning.” He kept his voice low, as the other men continued to talk around him. “I had to dig a bit. Hack into places I had no business hacking. I found her name on the employment list at the event center. This was the address she gave.”

Liam unfolded the note, his gaze skimming over the location.

“We’re gonna head back to Texas,” Luca said, pulling Liam’s attention back to the group. “There’s more security in our houses there than in our hotel rooms here. And if there are more people targeting us, being in separate places will make it harder for them.”

He was right. They had to assume that, somehow, these assholes had found out all sixteen men would be in the same place at the same time.

Another task—working out who’d leaked that information. It must have been leaked in advance, because that attack had taken time to plan.

Once the meeting was finished, Liam rose and left the conference room. He didn’t go back to his office, instead passing through reception, dipping his head toward Cassie behind the desk before taking the stairs down to his car.

He didn’t care that he barely knew this woman, he drove straight to her condo. Before climbing out, he sent another text.

Liam: Hey. I’m at your apartment to see you. Can I come in?

He waited. Every second that ticked by had his fingers clutching the phone tighter. Long minutes passed, and every one of them felt like a damn lifetime.

Fuck it.

He climbed out of his car and moved to her door. The second he knocked, he heard the rustle of movement from the other side. The groan of a mattress, followed by the soft pad of footsteps. The door opened, and Liam felt like he’d been kicked in the gut.

God, she was beautiful. The plump pink of her lips. The soft fall of her hair as it flowed around her shoulders. And those eyes…so pale blue, he thought he’d drown in them.

Her mouth opened and closed a couple times. “Liam. What are you… How did you know I was here?”

“You weren’t answering my texts, and I was worried, so I had one of the guys look into it.”

A bruise had bloomed across her cheek, and he couldn’t stop the growl that reverberated from his chest.

She swallowed. “Do you want to come in?”

When she stepped back, she winced in pain. His gaze shot down to her knee, his muscles tightening. He wished he could go back to the previous night and personally murder the fucker who’d hurt her.

Without hesitation, he stepped inside and lifted her off her feet.

She gasped. “Liam! What are you doing?”
