Finally, the paramedic stepped away. “All done. But remember, if you feel significant pain or have any issues, I would encourage you to visit the emergency room to make sure it’s not infected.”

She nodded and was just opening her mouth to respond when two cars pulled up.

Jason was the first to step out of a vehicle, then Courtney. When she saw Cody climb out of his rental, she quickly thanked the paramedic, then rose from the ambulance and started moving. The second he was within reach, she flung her arms around her brother’s middle, ignoring the ache to her side and hugging him hard.

Cody’s arms wrapped around her just as tightly. “You okay, sis?”

She breathed him in, letting his familiar scent comfort her and the fact that he was standing here slow her speeding heart. “I’m okay. Thanks to you and Liam.”

“Why were you in the ambulance? And why is your shirt bloody? Were you hurt?”

She pulled back, gaze moving over his face. “A bullet grazed my side.” His eyes darkened, and she hurried to add, “But it wasjusta graze, and the paramedic bandaged it up himself.”

“You need a hospital.”

“I’m okay. How’s your head?”

He paused before answering, clearly not wanting to let up on the hospital thing. “It’s fine. The second I turned my back on her, she hit me. I only lost consciousness for a few minutes.”

Thank God. “Is Trey—”

“He’s been arrested.”

Relief loosened the band around her chest even further.

Callum, Fiona, Logan, and Grace arrived next and came over to stand with them, as well as Jason and Courtney. Liam inched closer to her, wrapping an arm around her waist.

“The rest of the team have checked on their families and will meet us back at Blue Halo,” Logan said quietly. “The building is destroyed, though, along with Marble Protection’s office.”

Nylah’s heart dropped. These were businesses they’d built from the ground up, and this hate group had targeted them. Destroyed everything they’d worked for.

“It’s just a building,” Liam said, as if reading Nylah’s mind. “Everyone’s alive and the assholes have been arrested. That’s what’s important.”

She eased back against his chest. He was right. Alive. Everyone was alive. God, she was grateful.

She looked to Courtney. “How’s El?”

At the sad turn of Courtney’s mouth, Nylah’s stomach dropped. “Violet shot her in the stomach, but she was breathing when the paramedics loaded her into the ambulance.”

God, the poor woman. She’d already lost Carlson, and tonight she was shot by her roommate, a woman she considered her best friend.

Nylah turned to Jason. “You’re okay?”

His jaw clenched, rage transforming his expression. “A syringe was shoved into my neck from behind. I assume it was Trey and can only guess he chose not to shoot me because the bullet would have been too loud. He was probably planning to come back and finish me off in the chaos after the explosion.”

Courtney smoothed a hand down his arm, obviously trying to soothe some of the anger. “We’re all alive and safe.”

But Jason was a protector. It probably killed him that tonight, he hadn’t been able to protect anyone.

“You all got my message about Violet being Steve’s daughter?” Liam asked.

The men’s features hardened as they nodded.

“I’m relieved he wasn’t part of it,” Jason said.

Nylah’s heart thumped. She couldn’t even imagine the level of betrayal if he’d known. That would have cut deep into Liam’s entire team.

“I’m glad he’s on our side and that he’ll help us find everyone who was part of her group,” Logan said quietly. “We’re all safe now.”
