That was a damn good question.

Nylah lookedaround the condo parking lot. Two men were replacing the lock on the apartment door, and while they were at it, she was getting new locks placed on the windows too. Liam’s recommendation, of course.
She stepped closer to the guy working on the front door. “Do you know how much longer you’ll be?”
“Only a few minutes.”
She nodded. A part of her couldn’t help but feel uncomfortable about being out in the open. Even though she’d fought with Liam last night about her freedom, a lot of what he’d said was true. They did know where she lived.
God, her head was a mess.
The second she’d agreed to stay the week, she’d felt both relief and trepidation. And also something else. Something related to the fact that every time he touched her, she melted. Every time he looked at her and told her he needed her safe, something inside her chest cracked open for him.
Then that kiss…
Argh, it had been amazing. Her fingers twitched to brush over her lips, like she could still feel him there, against her. And the way his hands had roamed her body… God, she’d wanted to give up everything and just be his.
Why did she fall for men she absolutely should not be falling for?
Her phone rang, pulling her out of her thoughts. She tugged it out to see it was Paisley. Crap. She’d been too chicken to call her best friend earlier, so she’d texted her, which, yes, was the coward’s way out. A quick,Just letting you know someone broke into your condo, so I’m changing the locks to all entry points today.
With scrunched eyes, she placed the phone to her ear. “Hey, Pais.”
“Someone broke into the condo? Were you home? Are you okay? And why the hell did you tell me in atext? I need the whole story, Ny,now.”
Her friend was as worked up as she’d expected her to be. The fear of calling her had been warranted. “I wasn’t home…kind of. Liam, one of the Blue Halo guys, was walking me back to the apartment. He realized someone was in the condo, so he tugged me to the side of the building. They didn’t see me, and we’re ninety percent sure the people who broke in were looking for Liam. And I didn’t text you because I was scared.”
“Ninetypercent sure they were after Liam?”
“Well, the guys drove off, so we don’t know the actual reason. But they didn’t take anything from the condo.”
“Guys? Plural?” The shriek almost had Nylah pulling the phone from her ear. “And they’re still out there?”
She swallowed. “Yeah, they are.”
“Jesus Christ, Nylah! First the shooting at the event center, and now this! Both times while you’re around those guys. This Liam is clearly a wanted man, and you’re…what? Dating him?”
“No. Not dating.” Kind of not dating. Their evening out had been as friends. And their kiss…well, that had been a small slip.
“Where are you staying?”
She scrunched her eyes. “With Liam.”
“Oh my God…”
Okay. It sounded bad when all the information was put together. “His home has a lot of security. Plus, he’s as badass as they come. I’ll be fine.”
Truth be told, she felt safer there and around him than anywhere else. But that was something she absolutely would not be sharing with Liam.
“So, you’re just living with this guy now?”
“I agreed to stay with him for a week, but if nothing happens in that week, I’m returning to the condo—”
“That’s it. You’ve lost your mind. I’m calling Cody.”
“Paisley—”
