He was tall. Maybe…six-three? Six-four? He certainly towered over her five-six. And he was broad, with light brown hair her fingers twitched to run through.
Man, she was losing her goddamn mind.
One side of his mouth lifted. “We’ve got to stop meeting like this.”
Awareness sparked in her belly like little fireworks, not only from his deep, gravelly voice but the way the heat in his touch seemed to penetrate through her clothes to her skin.
She swallowed, trying to force her voice to work. “You mean with me not watching where I’m going and you saving me?”
“Fortunately, I like saving people.”
Oh yeah. He looked like a savior. “Well, thank you. And to show my gratitude, I can offer you a king crab bite.”
Slowly, his fingers unwrapped from her arm, but not before she felt the smallest caress of his thumb against her pulse. Or maybe her mind was making that up? And God, why did she want to pull his hand back to her?
“No, thank you. But come past me again in case I change my mind.”
She gave him what she hoped was a cool, calm, collected smile, but in reality, probably bordered on crazed. “I’ll be sure to do that.”
She moved past him, whispering,Do not fall or walk into anythingin her head the entire time.
She wasn’t usually so clumsy, but apparently around him, she was.
Why was she so fixated on the man? Cradle Mountain meant long-awaited freedom. Independence. Not finding a guy. Certainly not one like Liam. He had “protector” written all over him, exactly what she was trying to get away from.
She stopped at a small group of women, two of whom had large pregnant bellies. “Hi, ladies. Can I offer you a king crab bite?”
“Oh my gosh, yes, please. I’m starving!” One of the pregnant women grabbed two.
A woman with long red hair chuckled. “Sure, I’ll have one.”
The pregnant woman groaned as she ate the crab in one go. “These are amazing!”
The other pregnant woman laughed. “Well, now Ihaveto have one.”
The redhead smiled. “I’m Lexie. The starving pregnant woman is Evie. The slightly less starving pregnant woman is Samantha. And this is Sage. I feel you should have our names because you’ll be seeing a lot of us tonight.”
Nylah grinned. “It’s nice to meet you. I’m Nylah. And call me over as much as you need.”
The second pregnant woman, Samantha, let out a groan. “You’re right, Evie. These are—”
“To die for,” Evie finished.
“Let’s not go dying just yet,” a male voice said, before strong arms slid around Evie’s pregnant stomach from behind.
Nylah straightened. Another man she recognized. She was pretty sure he was one of the men who’d been part of Project Arma, but he lived in Marble Falls, Texas, with his team.
“Luca,” Evie sighed, leaning into him.
Three more men joined the group, each touching one of the women. God, they were all so big—well over six feet. Definitely the Marble Falls team.
“We were just making friends with Nylah here,” Samantha said as she also leaned into her guy’s front. “She’s going to look after us tonight. Nylah, this is Kye, Luca, Asher, and Mason.”
God, she was never going to remember all those names.
The guys dipped their chins while Kye gave her a smile of gratitude. “If you keep our women fed while they grow small humans, we’ll be eternally grateful.”
“Small?” Lexie scoffed. “Nothing will be small about them. Not with your genes.”
