Getting caught by his younger sister wasn't something that I planned on experiencing. But it happened; and just like I said to Lucas, I really didn't feel bad about the whole thing. I was only worried about how it would be interpreted if anyone else saw it. I didn't want to be seen as an opportunistic gold digger.

I've decided to clear my thoughts and tried not to think about any other thing. The only crippling thing bothering me was when she mentioned Lucas investigating her and his siblings private life. I talked to Lucas about it,in his car laying on his chest as we both try to recover from the sex.

“Why would your own sister try to blackmail you?” I asked after thinking about it. “I don't have siblings, so I'm not sure if it's a normal thing to do.”

“First thing you need to know about my family is that we aren't technically your typical family,” he replied.

Always suspected that. And judging by how Lucas looked at other families at the hospital with eyes of envy, I could tell he was jealous of other people who got along with their family members.

“So why blackmail you?” I asked. “And I don't know if I'm sounding judgy, but why are you investigating the private lives of your siblings?”

“It's complicated,” he responded.

“I have seen you handle very complicated cases at the hospital,” I reminded him. “I'm sure you could dumb down your family problems for me.”

“You speak too highly of me.”

“I only speak what I know is true.” I responded.

He sighed and thought about the answer. “I guess it's just us being on the safe side.”

“Why would you want to be on the safe side concerning your siblings?” I asked. “Sorry I'm asking too many questions.”

“No it's alright,” he replied. “I just realized the questions you're asking me are the type I should have asked myself.”

“Honestly, I don't know why I want to be on the safe side,” I replied.

“I mean I can understand if it's your father,” I said. “He's an asshole, and I just can't seem to get Kate to see that.”

“About my father…” he started to say as he reached for his phone. “You might want to see this.”

He showed me photos of James with another woman.

“Is this the maid your sister talked about?” I asked.

“The maid happened years ago,” he replied. “This was before we left for Chicago.”

“You knew?” I frowned. “Why didn't you show this to Kate?”

“I'm not close to her,” he explained. “Basically, this is what my siblings and I do. We find things in each other that would help us gain the upper hand.”

“Why would you want to do that?” I was genuinely confused.

He didn't answer. It felt like he was asking himself the same question.

“Your father aside, aren't you family? I'm sure your father has been a dick to all of you wouldn't it make more sense if you bonded together instead?” I asked.

He remained quiet for a few seconds. “You sound just like Gregory when he was a kid. Always wanted to make us bond together.”

I lay on his chest. “Maybe Gregory is the smartest of all of you.”

I could tell he wasn't pleased with my reply but he needed to hear it.

I had seen other siblings cover up for each other. When I was with my clients and their siblings would walk into us, they just laughed and went away, not take pictures and make demands later. His family was really sick. And what bothered me was that he had no idea why he had also decided to follow that line. As he caressed my hair, I drifted off into sleep.

After the talk with him, I felt like I should tell Kate what happened, but…
