Not knowing my offence I decided to be cool. “Good day, James. It's nice to see you again.”
Lucas opened his eyes, acknowledged Father's presence, didn't say anything, and closed his eyes.
“You, why are you so intent on putting me and Kate apart?” James asked.
“Excuse me?” I raised a brow.
Lucas opened his eyes and looked at his father.
“You heard me, just because she decided to go down the path she chose doesn't mean you of all persons have to make her feel insecure,” James continued his rambling.
I got to my feet, “Have you gone senile, old man?”
“Calm down, Olivia,” Lucas urged.
“Why are you tellingmeto calm….” I turned to face him, angered by the fact that he wasn't on my side. The anger on his face told me that he might have been.
“Ever since you suggested that she'd leave if I don't want to pick a dress,” James stated. “She wants to question my loyalty.”
“That is not what happened.” I frowned. “I was upset because you want to show her off, and you're yet to pick a wedding date, and she still doesn't know when she's going to pick her wedding dress.”
I continued, “You realize that might also be the reason why she's feeling a little worried, don't you?”
“And even if shewasquestioning your loyalty,” Lucas started. “Would there be a satisfying answer you can come up with?”
“What are you even on about?” James frowned. “This doesn't concern you either way.”
“She’s my staff and you don't get to talk to her that way,” Lucas replied ready to strike.
“So you're taking the side of a wench, over your own father?” James asked.
When he called me a wench, I could tell he was referring to my old life.
“You do not call her that,” Lucas warned, “and if I was presented to stand by her side or stand by yours, even if she was saying the wrong thing I will take her side a hundred times more than yours.”
“So, I guess you and Kate aren't so different after all,” James said to me while grinning. “Spread long enough and you'll find someone willing to stand by your side.”
He just called me a slut.
“That is enough!” Lucas yelled.
“I am your father; I decide when to say if something is enough or not,” James stammered.
“Not in my dictionary or thesaurus,” Lucas spat as he walked up to his father.
The son was taller and had more build.
“This isn't worth my time,” James sucked his teeth. “Mind your words with Kate. That's all. Especially you, Olivia. You aren't so different.”
At the last sentence he glanced over at Lucas and looked at me with contempt. He left both of us alone after his job was done.
“I'm sorry that he spoke to you that way,” Lucas apologized.
“Just leave me alone,” I said and headed for my room.
There was no way I was the same as Kate. I only slept with Lucas because my body needed him. I didn't sleep with him to get ahead of others. Everything I've done so far has been through my own hands.
I am different. I was no longer the way I was in the past.
