“Thank you. Thank you so much,” she said.

“Can we leave immediately?” I asked.

“Yes… please…”

I got into action immediately. The same day, we flew down to Chicago and brought her aunt to Richmond to admit her. As soon as she was admitted, her case worsened.

I felt like she had been trying to be strong for too long. So, the moment she came to the hospital, she let go of her burden and just declined. I had to keep Olivia out of the operating room as we tried to get her stable.

Her aunt was extremely lucky. If it were any other doctor, they would have struggled to get her in a stable condition.

“I told you to tell her.” I frowned at Sarah as she opened her eyes and scanned the area around her.

“Oh, hey handsome,” she called out weakly. “But I ended up telling her, didn't I?”

“At the cost of your own life being on the line. Nice job.” I could see why Olivia was upset with her.

“Don't be mad at me, my sweet doctor,” she cooed. “I didn't want her to worry. She doesn't realize it, but she has been looking after me a lot these past years. I'm supposed to be the one in that position.”

I remembered the story Olivia told me.

“I don't think that's such a bad thing,” I said. “As the only family she has left, she's supposed to look out for her aunt.”

“I guess you're right,” she sighed. “Wait… how is she paying for all this?”

“You shouldn't bother yourself about that and let her handle it,” I replied.

“I'm not going to be able to sleep peacefully if I don't know how she was able to provide for this,” she explained.

“This is my hospital and I'm paying for everything,” I insisted.

“How did you convince her to accept that?” She laughed and started coughing.

“Easy,” I calmed her. “I haven’t completely convinced her yet.”

“That makes more sense,” she said and relaxed.

The door opened and Olivia made her way inside.

“You dumb old hag,” she cried as she hugged her aunt. “They said you had time.”

“I thought so too,” Sarah said as she embraced her niece. “Guess you found a better doctor.”

“Don't give me credit just yet,” I said. “We have a lot more to do. Might take days. You can thank me after we're done.”

“Oh boy,” Sarah sighed.

“Thank you,” Olivia said, “I can never repay you for what you're about to do.”

I resisted the urge to say,You can pay back by offering me your forgiveness.

“It's no problem at all,” I assured her.
