He was still staring at me like he was lost in my eyes. It made me slightly bashful, and I kept trying to look away.

“What do you think about this relationship?” he asked. “About making it a thing.”

I don't understand how he still wanted to be a thing, especially as he was aware that his father was cheating on my best friend.

“To be honest. I don't want it to happen,” I answered.

“What?” he raised a brow.

“Yeah. It's only going to make things worse, and I don't want that,” I explained as rose to my feet. “In fact, I'm feeling tired about the whole thing.”

“I could have sworn you were okay with it,” he said, “or was that just me?”

“I was never okay with it to begin with,” I replied, “but I'm not sure you should be okay with it either.”

I mean have you forgotten what he said to me? And the fact that he literally has someone else outside?

“Good night,” he said and got up to leave.

“You aren't going to have dinner?” I asked. He was still dressed in his work clothes, so I assumed he hadn't eaten anything yet.

“I think I lost my appetite,” he replied.

“That makes two of us,” I sighed. “Good night.”

I watched him walk away. Sometimes I failed to realize how big his shoulders where. Maybe that's why I feel so at ease leaning on them. I was letting down my guard, blissfully unaware of any danger that would occur if I did so.

The next morning, I noticed something strange.

“Good morning, Lucas,” I greeted cheerfully.

“Good morning,” His greeting was so cold that the hot coffee Sebastian was pouring lost its heat immediately.

“Did anything happen?” I asked.

“Nothing did. See you at the hospital,” he answered and left immediately.

“What was that all about?” asked Kate. She was at the dining table having breakfast with me noticed the exchange that happened.

“I have absolutely no idea.”

It didn't stop there.

“These are all the things and reports you needed,” I said as I dropped them on his desk.

“Alright thank you,” he said as he picked up one of the documents and started reading.

It felt like he was putting up a wall between us, or maybe it's just me noticing it.

“Hey, did something happen between you and the boss?” Jane asked.

“Why, what happened?” I asked, hoping to find something new about the situation.

“Well, he asked me to do something, and I teased him about you. Normally he would ignore it with a playful expression or something, but he just flat out kept me silent,” she explained. “I found it very odd that's all.”
