"Oh…" She nodded in acknowledgment but paused and looked at both of us with a bewildered explanation. "Wait, what?"
"Nothing happened," he said, then turned his attention to me. "You. My office once you're done with everything for this morning."
"Yes, sir," I replied.
He gave me a long look before returning to his office.
"He looks pissed," Jane remarked in a whisper. "Did you do something?"
"I don't think so," I answered.
"Well, it's a first to see him look at someone like that," she added. "Can we get to work? I need your sorting abilities. And someone to help with the children's ward."
"Why would you want me there?" I asked. "I have no medical knowledge."
"That's not going to be a problem," she assured me. "You know that we can just have you watch over them; you aren't giving them any medication. They love you."
"If you say so," I said and shrugged.
"I'll get you scrubs," she said with a smile and walked away to go get the clothing.
"I don't need the…"
There was no need to finish my statement; she was already out of earshot. I sighed, accepting my fate. Well, that was just the first thing I needed to accept, the next being my boss's request to see him on my break.

After switching to the scrubs that Jane provided, I made my way to the children's ward. I checked each room, helping nurses and doctors in any way I could. There was a play area, so I joined some of the kids in playing some games. After I was done, there was one more room to check out before seeing my boss; for whatever reason, he had summoned me.
"Will I be okay?" a sweet little voice asked.
"Of course," a familiar one responded. "You're talking to the best doctor in the world."
Lucas was with a child lying in bed. The child looked weak but seemed to draw strength from the doctor's presence. Two other adults were present, probably the child's parents. They smiled lovingly at him.
Lucas also had a smile on his face. Maybe it's just me, but I could have sworn that he looked at the family almost like he was envious of them.
"Oh, a pretty lady," the child remarked, looking in my direction.
The adults turn to look at me. Lucas made a double take as he noticed the scrubs I had on.
"I'm just here to help watch the kids," I defended myself.
"Oh my," the mother reacted. "I didn't know you got more beautiful nurses to work for you."
"That's my secretary," Lucas informed her, then gave me a good look from head to toe. I resisted the urge to provide him with a 360 turn. "From the looks of things, Jane was the one who made her wear the scrubs."
"You're not wrong even in the slightest," I sighed and made my way into the room.
"I have to go back to the office," the father said, but he didn't even make an attempt to leave. "On second thought, I should stay."
"You've already taken three days off work," Lucas reminded him. "Your career will pay the medical bills in the end."
"You say that, but you're charging us half the original amount," the man said with a warm smile.
Lucas did not mind the statement, looking away like it didn't concern him.
"Thank you so much for all you're doing," the wife said to Lucas; she leaned close to her son. "You're doing good, okay?"
